Rockets kill 1, narrowly miss US ships in Jordan port By Suleiman al-Khalidi

AMMAN (Reuters) - Three rockets were fired at two U.S. Navy ships in Jordan's Aqaba port on Friday, but they missed their targets and hit a warehouse and a hospital, killing a Jordanian soldier, and striking the Israeli port of Eilat.

A Jordanian security source said authorities were searching for three men in the Katyusha missile attack, which was launched from an industrial warehouse area near the entrance to the city.

"We are searching for a Syrian and two Iraqis who are in Aqaba and used Kuwaiti number plates," the source said.

Immediately after the attack, the two U.S. amphibious assault ships, which had been on a joint training exercise with the Jordanian navy, weighed anchor and headed for the safety of open water.<snip>

AMMAN, Jordan (AP) - Unknown assailants fired at least three missiles from Jordan early Friday, with one narrowly missing a U.S. Navy ship docked at port, an attack that killed a Jordanian soldier. One missile fell close to an airport in neighboring Israel, officials said. <snip>

"At approximately 8:44 a.m. local time, a suspected mortar rocket flew over the USS Ashland's bow and impacted in a warehouse on the pier in the vicinity of the Ashland and USS Kearsage," Brown said. "The warehouse sustained an approximate 8-foot hole in the roof of the building." <snip>

AIsraeli police and witnesses said a Katyusha rocket fired from Jordan slammed into a taxi traveling near the airport in Israel's nearby Red Sea resort of Eilat, but did not explode. <snip>

The rocket left a small crater in the road about 15 yards from the Eilat airport fence, said local police commander Avi Azulin. <snip>

AMMAN, Jordan (AP) - No casualties are reported in a rocket attack today apparently aimed at a U-S Navy transport ship docked in Jordan and at a nearby airport in Israel.

The Navy says a suspected mortar round flew over a transport ship, the U.S.S. Ashland, and hit a warehouse on the dock. Neither the Ashland nor the nearby U.S.S. Kearsarge was hit. A spokesman says the round knocked an eight-foot hole in the roof of the warehouse but no sailors or Marines were hurt.

A police commander in Eilat, Israel, says a rocket fired at Israel hit a road near the airport. He says a cab driver passing by was slightly wounded. <snip>

1. I'll bet the M$M keep this one quiet. Don't want to disturb the
"Little Emperor's" vacation.

Can you imagine if this was Clinton and our ship was fired on? Jordon is our friend. Could it be that "terra" is spreading against us..
