Jordan's King Abdullah urges aid to Palestinians, Israeli withdrawal
Jordan's King Abdullah II expressed hope Tuesday that the world community would devise a plan for rescuing the Palestinian economy from the devastation of decades of mismanagement and conflict with Israel.

Abdullah told visiting Israeli opposition party member Ehud Barak that security would only prevail in the region if Israel were to "complete its withdrawal from the West Bank as stipulated in the road map," the internationally backed peace plan that calls for a Palestinian state.

"I hope that that the international community will adopt a comprehensive economic plan to support the Palestinian economy and rebuild Palestinian institutions," he said.

Palestinian economy is in tatters because of the Israeli economic blockade on the Gaza Strip, years of violent conflict with Israel and mismanagement all of which have reduced the average per capita Palestinian income to US$2 a day, according to the United Nations.

1. Maybe they'll pause before starting another intifada.

4. Blame game? Hope we're past that.
Wondering what kind of economy exists on $2.00 a day. What do they do there? You, know idle hands and all that. No mfg or tourism. Do they grow stuff?

5. not much of anything....
they do have some agriculture in Gaza..not much however....nor much manufacturing as well. The PA pretty much left it up to israel to be the employeer. They did have a short construction boom when the PA came and they built apts for the officers and villas for the elite...but that was pretty much about it...they had some small "industrial parks" but they also manufactured kassams so they werent so safe.....and the orchards were also used for firing so many got "razed" for better fields of fire by the IDF

A potential big employeer are the greenhouses that the israelis left behind for the palestenians....ready made million dollar markets, sophisticated growing systems..experienced palestenians workers

now the question is....can they actually take responsability. With no more physical occupation, access to egypt....and possibly, but not neccessarily access to israels market, its now up to the PA.

though I am sure we'll hear excuses about "why israel is to blame for their problems"...it will be just excuses. israel is no longer responsable for the palestenains in Gaza. They dont owe them access to their economy, or anything like that.

stay tuned for the next version of "why israel is guilty of supressing the palestenians in gaza" (cynicism or realism?)

6. Hmm, I'm thinking about US markets.
I don't think I would buy any kassams, (at least not until after the 2008 recount LOL) but if I could afford it I might buy a pot made from Gaza clay by palestinians. Today I might, but that could change in less time than it takes to ship it here. By air.
