"The 911 hearings so far"
A show is coming on today, Sunday, 4/23/04 @ 12 noon on MSNBC. I posted this under "latest" but probably should have posted it here.

1. What 9/11 hearings?
When this 9/11 Commission was first established..my hope was that it would accomplish what the relatives of most family members of those who died that day wanted. Not a witch hunt, no excuses, no speeches about bravery or the dangers of terrorism, but answers to what really happened on those planes on 9/11/2001. Some accounts say that 6 men hijacked four jets...others say it was 10 men. The stories range from all the terrorists being armed with guns to a single terrorist in one of the four planes holding up over 50 passengers with a plastic letter opener! But what happened, and what went wrong?

When we waste hundreds of lives and billions dollars both in Iraq and Afghanistan before the basic answers to such questions are released to the public..then what progress has really been made to protect the American people from such future attacks?

3. They have failed to show a direct connection between 9/11 & al Qaeda..
from Bob Woodward's "Bush at War"

In addition the CIA and the FBI had evidence of connections with at least 3 of the 19 hijackers and bin Laden and his training camps in Afghanistan. It was consistent with intelligence reporting all summer showing that bin Laden had been planning "spectacular attacks" against U.S. targets.

For Tenet, the evidence on bin Laden was conclusive-game, set, match. He turned to the agency's capabilities on the ground in Afghanistan.

Why has the commission not obtained this intelligence of the planned "spectacular attacks" and released this to the taxpayers? If we should demand something in return for our tax dollars it should be security for all American citizens, not just for appointed government officials. Why go to war with Afghanistan when only three of the hijackers are known to be connected with "bin Laden and his training camps in Afghanistan?"

Most importantly..why were these hearings not held before we sent troops into Afghanistan and Iraq?

4. The hearings have
failed to show alot of things and the free pass they gave Bush, Cheney, and Guiliani was incredibly lame. I mean, why bother? It seems that all that these hearings have accomplished is good PR for the government, and bad PR for victims' familes and their supporters. I really didn't expect too much from the beginning, but yea, you would think they would actually try to glean some kind of answers that could help in the future even if it's obvious no one is going to be held responsible for the past.

5. Has the intelligence testimony to the Commission been scrubbed?
I just tried to access Richard Clarke's testimony on their site and this is what I got:

The page you requested was not found on our site. Please notify the webmaster or use our search below to find the page you are seeking.

I have accessed the testimony before and it was there. Maybe someone else can access it, maybe it is just me. Here is the link to the Commission page with the people testifying that day:
