1. Best part of your link
is the comments - sound like progressive minded folks. :sarcasm: Heck, two of them make mention of the people at DU being in a meltdown over this.

I love South Park, and there handling of the 9/11 topic was ill-informed. I will give them a pass. Like most Americans they haven't done the homework - I can't fault them for that. 1/4 of the pop is retarded? Wait, what is Bush's approval rating 34%? that's closer to the real number.

the truth of 9/11 will be the hardest time we say "We told you so"

2. Didn't even check out the comments.
Homework on 9/11 conspiracy theories? Only if 1 + 1 = 3

I've done my research and thoroughly looked at almost all the relevant information.

I sit amazed that people who honestly look at the information still cling to the fantasy of a MIHOP or LIHOP

It's a free country.

3. "South Park Conservatives"
Edited on Thu Oct-12-06 09:01 AM by Minstrel Boy
When describing the hit cartoon 'South Park,' words like 'irreverent' and 'obscene' come to mind. But conservative? Thanks to cable news, talk radio and blogs, this cheeky type of humor now spills into cable television.

At least, that’s what Brian Anderson, editor at “Manhattan Institute City Journal,” has to say in his new book, South Park Conservatives: The Revolt Against Liberal Media Bias.

Many conservatives might be shocked to consider 'South Park' a conservative show. Yet, nothing on television seems to go after the left the way 'South Park' does — a rarity in mainstream media.

...

Make no mistake “They’re not equal-opportunity offenders, however. If you really look at episode after episode, they go after multiculturalism, radical environmentalism, hate-crime legislation, even abortion rights,” says Anderson. “And when was the last time you saw anything in popular culture satirize something like that?”

7. Wondered the same thing
lots of Olbermann bashing, Lancet study bashing, ACLU bashing, etc. going on there. Kind of puts the article in the OP into perspective.

6. I hate South Park
and not because of this. One time a friend of mine with boys was telling me how funny her kids thought South park was and was it OK if she brought some tapes she'd recorded along to our ski cabin for the weekend, and my kids were going to be there too. I said "ok" and all the kids were watching it and I have daughters . I couldn't believe how sexist it was , I mean it was pure misogyny on a very deep level . My friend is kind of oblivious to stuff like that, so I didn't say anything but I really felt I had betrayed my daughters for letting her play it. Also, it wasn't funny at all, except for in a "low brow" way. I tried to pretend I thought it was funny, but it was just stupid. "We're hip so it's okay if we ridicule women and minorities.
It figures that they would side with the Bush government on 9-11.

8. They are conservatives and very annoying ones
Lots of anti-environmental messages too. Its bs that they "bash both sides equally".
Yeah they bash Christians now and then but thats just because they are of the more libertarian conservative persuasion rather than fundie cons.

There are also so many messages generally in there about how it is good to be apathetic and apolitical (just live your own life-don't be like those activists)....

They can be funny sometimes but anyone who thinks there is some serious social commentary in there is just wrong imo. Satire is the tool of the powerless against the powerful....

Doesn't work so well when your boogeymen are "Hollywood liberals" and liberal activists and ACLU-apart from all else, these groups don't have that much power....The SP guys really have it in for the Hollywood people and mpstly it comes across as petty childish spite :eyes:

..is "everything and everyone is stupid and you should belittle everything" which pushes people into a cynic, self-centered apathy.

13. That's usually the point of satire.
To make the commentator, and also the audience, look smarter in comparison. And that nothing is too sacred to make fun of.

11. What's so funny is that this only helps expose the realities of 9/11
Edited on Thu Oct-12-06 02:04 PM by mhatrw
to a bigger audience.

Does anybody really think these sorts of attacks are effective? What happened on 9/11 is so obvious that the best way to suppress it is to ignore it entirely.

Who had the best means? Who had the best motive? Who had the best opportunity? The South Park boys would have us believe that no powerful US citizens are competent enough to do something that a few "pissed off Muslims" managed to pull off with ease. Isn't that completely retarded?

We all know we are being lied to daily. The only thing holding the 9/11 lie together is its horrendous scope. As soon as people get past that (and more do every single day), it all becomes so obvious.

They said they wanted it. They said they needed it. And then they all twiddled their thumbs as it was happening. Then they told seven different stories about why they did nothing to respond. What more does anyone need to know about it?

They wrote a shitty screenplay with a ridiculously unbelievable plot, but within this screenplay is the germ of a far more compelling narrative that ties up thousands of loose ends.

Yes, they've done a "masterful job" at pretending this debate is about physical evidence only. Why? Because the narrative is what makes 9/11 truth so compelling -- not the evidence. Even this South Park episode presents some clues to the narrative to a number of people who may not have ever considered it.

They said they wanted it. They said they needed it. And then they all twiddled their thumbs as it was happening. Then they told seven different stories about why they did nothing to respond. What more does anyone need to know about it?
