ACCOUNTABILITY FOR MILITARY TORTURE

So far, the most interesting aspect of the Bush government's prison torture scandal in Iraq (and who knows where else) is the refusal by the Bushites to take responsibility.

These people constantly lecture the rest of us on being responsible for our actions, asserting that there's no relativity when it comes to good and evil. Yet, here, tucked in the dark horror of their own war, are actions that rank among the purest of evils -- and all they give us is moral equivocation and ducking of personal responsibility.
