Motion Mountain - The Free Physics Text Book
www.motionmountain.net/index.html
www.motionmountain.net/text.html
How do objects and images move? How can animals move? What is motion?...
How does a rainbow form?
Is levitation possible?
Do time machines exist?
What does 'quantum' mean?
What is the maximum force value found in nature?
Is 'empty space' really empty?
Is the universe a set?
Which problems in physics are still unsolved?

Download the text (21st edition, December 2007).

This site provides a free physics textbook that tells the story of how it became possible, after 2500 years of exploration, to answer such questions. The book is written for the curious: it is entertaining, surprising and challenging on every page. With little mathematics, starting from observations of everyday life, the text explores the most fascinating parts of mechanics, thermodynamics, special and general relativity, electrodynamics, quantum theory and modern attempts at unification. The essence of these fields is summarized in the most simple terms. For example, the text presents modern physics as consequence of the notions of minimum entropy, maximum speed, maximum force, minimum change of charge and minimum action.

1. Based on the lack of response,
I suspect educational stuff like this isn't especially valuable to most 9/11 conspiracy advocates here.

2. Perhaps if the physics text was set to thumpin' music...

Otherwise, I suspect your information will be deemed as valuable as the post about MIT OpenWare I made a few months ago.

Edit: Wow, that was a year ago, not a couple of months ago. Time flies!

3. Well, there's some video in that pdf.
And it is really super cool.

(Maybe that will help)

20. Sort of off topic, but did you ever see the Mythbusters...
where they tested the "bread always fall butter side down" hypothesis, but dropping slices of bread from a 3 storey building?

Turned out that bread was actually more likely to fall butter side up. Seems that the act of putting butter on one side created a concave shape on the butter side and a convex shape on the unbuttered side. The bread was more likely to fall through the air with the convex side down.

They didn't test cats from a 3 story building, however.

Cheers.

Sid

14. based on the lack of response
what am I to conclude? Nothing, because your lack of response means nothing, as did the general response to your OP.

15. You can't conclude anything, but feel free to suspect something.
Just like I did, as described in reply #1.
Hope you check out the pdf, it's really fascinating.

8. DUers who hang out in the DU Science Forum seem to like it.
Edited on Wed Jan-30-08 12:30 AM by greyl
There have been at least 2 OPs about it so far, here and here.

So, thanks once again for posting vindictive falsehoods instead of either dealing with the topic at hand or moving on to a thread that inspires you to spread your overflowing love with fellow DUers.

6. Cute. A condescending slight masquerading as a friendly attempt to share knowledge.
Cuz as all OCTers know, only THEY understand physics, science, and engineering.

7. No, it was an authentic sharing of something I thought could come in handy
to many people here who often get into discussions depending on science fact.
I waited 3 weeks, then snarked out a little, big deal.

One central belief I operate on in here is that everyone has the capacity to learn. I have zero problem with 9/11 Truthers and the like being well armed with scientific knowledge and understanding.

12. I know an engineer...
who is not an OCTer. He understands physics, science and engineering. We agree about a lot of things, but not the events of September 11th. Not all members of the so-called "truth movement" are idiots - just generally the loudest and most offensive.

24. Substitute those who oppose the truth movement and then

you could plausibly claim to be fair and balanced. Emphasis on plausibly.

22. Some of us don't have time to read a physics textbook. Could you
please point us to the information relevant to 9/11 and, I'm assuming, the physics of motion applicable to the collapse of buildings. Thanks.
