but at the 10th floor instead of the 78th floor, what do you think would happen, if we assume the plane crash and ensuing fires weakened the steel columns enough to cause the tower to collapse?

and will try to find the source for it, that the towers were designed to collapse into their own footprints. it was thought that eventually the WTC would be obsolete and need to be brought down. as a result, taking into account their great height, they were designed to collapse into their own footprints (as close as possible anyway) to avoid damaging nearby buildings.

with chris on the concrete core and c4, but just using a bit of physics.
unless the building toppled immediately after the impact, the remaining structure would over load the undamaged support and cause them to buckle and fail.

it would have done damage to the nearby buildings. However, I think there would be some amount of disintegration during the fall - it wouldn't fall over exactly like a tree.
