Yesterday morning I woke up to a beautiful sunrise not a cloud in the sky. The sunrise was spectacular. On my drive to work I notice an extremely lot of air traffic, mainly jetting across the path of the sun some leaving thick heavy trails behind them, some other planes their trails would evaporate.


As I was sitting waiting to start work, I was amazed at how the trails spread out and made it cloudy .The only thing in the sky were airplanes darting back and forth in front of the sun. The sun now could not be seen.


The funny thing is that the planes thick trails would stop at the cloud line and the plane would continue on its route.
After watching a few planes you could see couple of them loop around and continue the trail at the man made cloud line.


This continued all day long .
I noticed them doing it again today.

Not necessarily for you, but for other CTers.

Exhaust from a jet engine (or really any engine) is hot and contains all sorts of things, water included. Due to the high temps, that water is in vapor form.

Temperatures aloft are signficantly cooler than that hot exhaust, thus the water will cool and condense, forming a trail if the conditions are right. Depending on conditions aloft (temperature, winds (including shear), relative humidity, whatever) and what the aircraft is doing (ascending, descending) contrails may not be formed at all, or form intermittenly.

It's really that simple.

Which is not to say there are no experiments with weather modification, nor that it's impossible that chemicals are being sprayed at high altitude (though i think it would not be hard to not have it be visible). I really don't put anything past them, technology to do both exists, and i can think of a couple of motives.

But the photos the OP posted prove neither.

10. PBS had a special about global dimming last month.

They say that even as there is global warming, there is an opposite sort of thing happening, global dimming of the sun coming from man made sources, one of which are these airplane trails. And that if you actually start to lower the air pollution, the effects of global warming will suddenly become much stronger than now, because scientists have discovered that global warming is in fact much stronger than they thought even a year ago, some of the effects having been masked by the global dimming of the sun.

But not in the way that they've been portrayed by most.

After watching the PBS special on Global Dimming, I realized that the contrails were actually helping us because they were holding down a rise in temperature. The special said as much, discussing the rise in temperature measured on Sept. 12 after all aircraft traffic was grounded. (In short, the particulate matter introduced high in the atmosphere forms water vapor droplets at a much smaller size that are formed by "ordinary" particulate matter. Because of this a great deal of haze is created and this haze acts like a mirror, reflecting light back into space and lowering the surface temperature of the earth.)

A real conspiracy theorist could envision a government attempt to ameliorate the effects of global warming through "extra" contrails. That is, they realize by keeping the atmosphere slightly hazy they can offset global warming and actually benefit agriculture in CONUS. Once rising fuel costs ground most air traffic, the haze will disappear and earth's surface temperature will rapidly rise. So these "chemtrails" are just postponing the inevitable effects of global warming.

I first heard about this 2002ish, in Dallas. I was having a smoke break with my client, and there were lots of contrails in the sky - not that there's a major airport around there or anything - and some guy was going on about the government spraying something. My client was into it, too, and I was afraid to ask what they thought was being sprayed.

That said, the trails are due to hot jet exhaust hitting the cold atmosphere, I do believe. The ones that stay longer may be using a different fuel mixture, may be at a different altitude (higher up), it maybe due to incoming weather, other properties such as pollution :shrug: who knows trails happen. I have seen many instances of long-lasting trails followed by rain on a formerly cloudless day, but the trails may have lasted longer precisely because of the incoming weather? I wouldn't worry myself about it. :)

23. The trails stopping at the cloud line is to be expected

if it is a natural phenomena - that is to say, if these are normal condensation trails rather then chem trails or weather modification. Has to do with the amount of moisture in the air relative to the temperature of the air, and with the fact that there's this meteorological phenomena called inversion - a boundary between warm and cold volumes of air.
Also it is not unusual for cloud cover to change over time. The moisture that's forming the clouds comes from somewhere, usually earth's surface. If moisture still is being supplied and the air layers don't displace much then cloud cover can increase over a specific area. Happens all the time.

26. Maybe you misunderstood me

The planes made every cloud that you see in those pictures.The trails spread out to what you see in those pics. The 2 trails you see in the pics soon blended in with the others. I borrowed a co workers camera to take these pics. From before 6 am till 9:30 am these planes laid every patch of clouds you see in those pics.

If you look closely you will see the plane that laid these trails a little farther off in the distance.

Many of these planes would loop around and start the trail at the cloud line. Now I don't think people buy tickets to take a joy ride continuously all day long ! Flights are normally one way..

I also saw planes flying in the same area that left no trails at about the same elevation right next to the one laying trails.

Now today I only saw a few planes with no trails but the usual evaporating type.

If its a gas mixture why not everyday?

29. Whatever they are we have them here in Phoenix as well.

The jets usually spend hours criss-crossing the sky on weekends. On Easter weekend, however, they worked on Thursday instead. (I'm so glad the pilots got Easter Sunday off ;)). The white streaks always spread out and form funky looking "clouds" that darken the sky for a couple of days. Sometimes there are rainbows in them.

So what's going on?

On edit: Sometimes they fly on weekdays, but more often I see them on weekends.

Before seeing the Nova Program: "Dimming the Sun," I thought Contrails and all the speculation about them was just an interesting CTers mental exercise. Now I'm not so sure. I think there is something to it all. The reason global warming isn't taking off far more than it is, according to the research and evidence provided in the Nova program stated above, is due to Global Dimming. Perhaps the Government knows this and is actively and quietly involved in dimming programs. It isn't so far fetched. See these links below. Cloud seeding has been going on for a very long time in addition.
