Man, this would be great if Howard got the boot. A great primer for when our election comes up!!

Polls Show Tight Contest in Australia

By MIKE CORDER, Associated Press Writer

SYDNEY, Australia - Australians voted Saturday on whether to hold onto their three-term conservative government and keep their troops in Iraq (news - web sites), or choose the opposition Labor Party and endorse its pledge to pull out Australia's soldiers by Christmas.

The extremely close parliamentary election was widely seen abroad as the first referendum for the three leaders who launched the March 2003 invasion of Iraq, with President Bush (news - web sites) facing a ballot showdown next month and Britain's Tony Blair (news - web sites) probably facing voters next year.

But Australians have focused more on the economy, health and education than on Prime Minister John Howard's unpopular decision to join the Bush coalition, and several polls give him a slight edge over his rival, Labor Party leader Mark Latham.

1. Howard is going to win this election.
Early counts show a swing towards his party across the nation. He ran on the economy, which resonated with the millions of dumb Aussies who have mortgages that they can't afford.

6. Shit oh shit, it don't look good, Roo
I can't bear to watch the tally.
Howard scared the electorate at the 11th hour with the tactic that a Latham govt would result in high interest rates up around the 17% mark, similar to the high interest rates last time Labor was in power, pre 1996. Of course he failed to mention that this was a worldwide trend. Those too stupid to think for themselves deserve everything they get from this carping, snivelling, lying little fuckwit for the next 3 years. I'm gutted! And :puke:

4. Howard up so far
http://www.usatoday.com/news/world/2004-10-09-aussie-elections_x.htm

With just over 10.4% of the vote counted, the Liberal Party had 53.7% of the vote and the opposition Labor Party had 46.3%, according to the early results. Pre-election polls had put the two parties neck and neck...

5. When a few Aussie troops are killed and blown to little bits...
then perhaps Aussies will wake up.

7. Too true.
the only reason Howard hasn't had his throat slit is the fact that he didn't lose any troops in Iraq.

But don't be too glum - now Howard has to deliver on billions in promises he made to the public in return for their votes.
