iowa registration crap
Edited on Thu Oct-14-04 03:32 PM by ianrs
I've posted this in the Iowa bit as well (sorry, am not Iowan!) but:

http://desmoinesregister.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20041013/NEWS09/410130353/1056

smaller in scale than the many repuke vote thefts, and it doesn't appear to be fraud, rather some kind of admin cock-up, but let these people vote! You can email the hell out of Iowa Sec. of State Culver (Dem) at this address:

sos@sos.state.ia.us

Vile repuke officials such as blackwell in Ohio deliberately suppress the vote; but Dem officials must be, and be seen to be, spotless in this regard, and vigilant and active in remedying misconduct or maladministration - for reasons of natural justice as well as for political reasons!

here is more information on this, with useful contacts etc.

2. Problem update
Here's what I received when I emailed just minutes ago:

Yes, we've been working on this continuously and had the verification testing not been successful with the Social Security Administration this morning, we would have found away around the verification process. Regardless of what the media has been saying, voters in Iowa will not be turned away at the polls.

Thanks for getting these problems straightened out. I'm sure all will be done by Nov2, if they are working as quickly as you are in speedy email reply! I will forward to other interested parties.

The counties now have access to the Social Security Administration and numbers are being verified.

Thanks for writing.

How about MANUALLY verifying the SSN and the registration forms?

Get some lead out and get some people to get it done OR get a provisional ballot or absentee ballot into EACH AND EVERY ONE of those folks you screwed up. How much could it take to get a few employees together in the voter registration office to go through each form and CALL the human services office employees to LOOK UP the number on their system.

This is NOT rocket science and we want young kids to vote for the first time and we want old folks to keep voting, even if by absentee ballot.

Mock Swede I salute you. I'm not even a USAer, so I think it would have been a bit much for me to email myself (though they would never have known, I suppose). Your email was fantastic, the result equally so.
Best of luck on Nov. 2!!!

I posted the give and take replies and they are in reverse order, so read from bottom up.

I'm done having W be the face the rest of the world must see when they bother to look our way. Note, I do not think folks in the world MUST pay attention to people/events here. It's a big world and there are lots of people with their own problems out there that constitute 'news'. But when they do, I'd rather they not have to hold their noses and have a churning in their queasy stomachs whenever they view the President of the United States in his position to represent US citizens in the world.

I'm working hard to improve the 'face' of the US. If for now other reason than to improve the 'world view'.
