Can someone explain the political significance of the I-4 corridor in FL? |
|
I've heard that this is very important. A recent poll showed Bush winning there by 4 points and this was a much smaller lead than the last few weeks.
Now I understand the I-4 corridor goes from Orlando through Tampa Bay and Daytona.
How do these cities normally vote? Must Kerry win these cities or if it's close, can Kerry still win if he does strong in the other areas (like Miami, Palm Beach, etc)?

1. I think that's the "swing" area of the state |
|
Miami and the area around it are mostly Democratic, with the panhandle and Jacksonville being predominantly Republican - whoever takes out I-4, then, according to the theory, wins Florida.

2. Don't worry about that poll. |
|
Like so many of them, it ignores the newly registered voters. ALL of the newly registered voters that I know are voting against Bush. And yes, I live in the I-4 corridor. We'll be fine.
I also think that the most recent Zogby poll had Kerry winning FL by a slim margin. For what it's worth.
