What did you think of Jimmy Carter on Letterman?
He did well. He said that he thought that Bush would not have been as popular without the Iraq war. Do you agree or disagree and why?

1. I agree completely
I know many people who are voting for Bush* just because they're scared of "terrorists". Sad, but true.

2. I agree if you change Iraq for 9/11
As I recall, his approval numbers dipped before 9/11, and it seemed like his administration was going nowhere. I think the war on terror has been the number one thing for him popularity wise.

3. Loved his comment about the cover of his book....
my publisher suggested another cover, but it wasn't what I wanted, so I decided to learn something about painting...

And there were a few good slams about FL and the elections: we have to be invited in by both sides - and I don't think that will happen in FL...

4. Pure Class!
And funny too. I liked how he said when he was 60 he climbed some mountain, than at 65 he climbed Mount Fiji and now at 80 he walked out to the shed without falling down. Aww. Got a big laugh.

And he's still building houses! The man is such an inspiration.

5. Think about what was going on with America and shrubco just before
Edited on Tue Oct-19-04 12:39 AM by Mayberry Machiavelli
the propaganda runup to Iraqnam. Crap economy. Enron and daily corporate scandals out the wazoo. shrubco had NOTHING. They were on a one way ticket to one term palookaville.

Even though Iraqnam may be one of the biggest reasons shrubco gets evicted, it did help them drum up the mindless patriotic war fervor that infects any country when being summoned to war. And it was instrumental in helping them win midterms.

I've always believed that the "true believers" in the PNAC foreign policy agenda were people like Wolfowitz/Feith/Cambone. I believe that Rove just sold shrub on the war because it would politically help him out of his troubles.

Think back to what YOU were thinking to when this "threat" suddenly materialized, overnight, out of nowhere! It sure didn't pass the SMELL test to me!

6. Agree completely
Everything else that Bush has touched has been a complete failure, and actually so has the war (it's just not spun that way).

Carter as usual was awesome.

7. 9/11 and then Iraq saved bush from bombing early in the public
It was clear when bush's approval rating began to scream downward after the all-time highs of 9/11 that he wanted to go into Iraq NO MATTER WHAT. It was a terrible thing to watch.

Hopefully Iraq will also lead to his ejection from the WH.

8. Carter is one of the greatest people on the planet
He was a class act all the way

He is dead on right. Without Iraq, the little bushturd would have already been run out of office.

Remember when the PResident was someone of accomplishment, intelligent, articulate and a leader?

The repukes and their stable of conmen, lousy actors and failed oil company execs have debased our nation.

9. Agree
He also said the war was unjust and unnecessary. And I think he put the concept of a war president in perspective i.e. in times of war the country gets behind the commander in chief no matter what, and no matter who has the job. He said that about 41 too. The Iraq war didn't help 41 either. By the time of the election he was toast. 43's numbers are only slightly higher because we're still fighting in Iraq now. Some Americans just can't get past the stupid "don't change horses in mid-stream" bull shit. How many times do these thick headed Americans have to hear "yes you should change horses mid-stream, if you're riding a dead horse and you're drowning", for it to become a better analogy.

President Carter has been a great humanitarian and world citizen. Loved the jab he took at Glenda (the wicked witch) Hood, FL partisan hack SOS. Same mission (to steal and disenfranchise FL voters) different repuke character playing the lead part.

10. I don't understand that "change horses" bullshit either.
Seems to me people would want someone in the WH who is a proven negotiator; we are never going to win the war or terror period, but we sure as Hell aren't going to do it with someone who has not an ounce of negotiating skills in his entire body. We don't trust Bush and the rest of the world sure as Hell doesn't trust him. Kerry knows how to give and take to get what we need; Bush only knows how to dole out millions to shady characters who we find out later gave us the shaft. Doofus.

12. Ever rode a horse into a stream, then had the beast go nuts
on you? I have; rearing up and sliding all over slippery rocks, threatening to topple over and crush you. Believe me, you start looking for a new damn horse!
