An encouraging story...
Last Friday night I walked over to my local convenience store to get some cash and pick up a magazine for a little trip I was taking Saturday. The store was empty except for the two older men behind the counter. The one looked like the owner and he was training the other man, who appeared to be a relative of his (they looked like they could be brothers).

As I was paying, the owner spotted my Kerry button on my coat and said "So you support Mr. Kerry then?"

"Yes!" I replied "Will you be voting?"

The owner smiled and said "Yes, I too am voting for Mr. Kerry. Mr. Bush is a very bad man. He likes only to start the wars!"

Pointing to the other man he said "This is his first election as a citizen."

The other man got a broad smile on his face and said "OH, Mr. Kerry is a very good man!"

I said "I'm so glad, sometimes it seems like people believe all the lies that Bush is spreading about Kerry, and that worries me. Bush is an evil, evil man."

The owner then replied "Don't worry, we see the people and we talk to the people and the people are voting for Mr. Kerry. Nobody believes Mr. Bush anymore."

I left that store with a big smile on my face.

3. And that man has probably done as much or more for
Kerry's campaign as anybody since he talks to people all day. Tell him he's a good man too.

5. I was thinking of bringing them some buttons.
I will tell them what you said. They are good men. And sincere.

7. Unfortunately for Kerry I'm in a blue state
(Illinois) but I think that the men at the convenience store still had a great point. They see and talk to the regular folks, the ones that would usually vote for a conservative president. And they still get a sense that people are voting for Kerry.

11. I was at my neighborhood 7-11 this morning
buying my cup of Kerry coffee, and the cashier told me, "We only sell the Kerry ones. We don't sell ANY of the Bush ones."

I enjoyed hearing that.
