6. Actually, it is a marketing gimmick

My neighbor who plans to run for office, but who can't because he has to care for his father who is ill, does the same thing Imus does. His objective is not to offend democrats, who's votes he will need, while at the same time spouting repuke rhetoric to maintain his party credentials.

In New York Imus is going to lose market share if he says he's unequivocally for bush.

I'm convinced that Imus decided, a while back, to play the foil to his stupid crew of knuckle dragging sycophants, and throw some faux support behind Kerry, hoping to raise his ratings.
I strongly believe that its really an effort to increase what passes for witty repartee on this daily testosterone fest he calls 'his show'.
Most of his 'regular' listeners aren't interested in real issues, and only truly get moved when he gives the appearance of taking a stand. What better way to do that than claim to support Bush's opponent so that he and the locker room boys can launch into their daily diatribes against anyone and everyone who they deem unworthy? (most often women, as it turns out)

Imus is a phony, and his staff are, among other things, a bunch of misogynist assholes.
