that this has gone around the "bird circles" where there are a few committed lefties in every bunch. they are usually outnumbered by the wingnuts, but the middle is big. and not very political. so this is such a good thing.

It's good to be here among like-minded people.:) Re the birders, my fil is an avid bird-watcher, but he is already voting for Kerry anyway. However, if there are any undecided birders out there, this website might help. I read an article about it in our local newspaper this morning, and apparently the man who started the site, is financing it, along with a few billboards on I-4 in Florida, himself. One hopes those ads might actually have an impact!

6. As a birder

and butterflier who qualifies for the senior discount at the nearby movie theater, I wouldn't vote based on birds -- but on the environmental issue, definitely.

Birding is a form of recreation and enjoyment of natural wealth. This natural wealth is by no means secure in our society. I support environmental preservation not for my own enjoyment, but for many reasons, and one of them -- somewhere down the list -- is the fact that there are many people who enjoy the recreation as I do and their interest deserves consideration in public policy just as any other interest does.
