Thank you to those of you who live in less than progressive areas |
|
Living in Cambridge, Massachusetts I get my suspense and knowledge of the race from the web. While I'm glad to live in such a progressive community, I'm full of admiration for those of you who bravely struggle in your own more conservative communities. That takes a lot of guts. I know--I haven't always lived in Cambridge.
I don't watch tv much, and the only newspaper I read is the rather progressive Boston Globe, so my sense of what is going on in the rest of the U.S. comes from DU, major news sites, and various blogs, including some rightwing ones. The one thing that has struck me over the last year is how quickly Democrats and other progressives mobilized against a powerful, entrenched rightwing machine.
Those of you who live in less than progressive areas have played the biggest role in creating a powerful movement. Now, instead of pockets of progressives, we are all over. We can be found and seen in every state from Alabama to Idaho to Washington to Massachusetts. It's very empowering, and it gives real hope not just to this election, but to the future of our country. If we're this strong now, just think how much stronger we will be in as time goes on.
The progressive movement in the U.S. will be stronger thanks to those of you who in your less than progressive communities did so much to bring us all together. At times I felt isolated in Cambridge; now I feel like I'm getting my country back. Thank you!

1. Let me also thank all of you Mass. Residents who come up here to NH, |
|
and there are literally hundreds if not thousands who do so, to help get JFK elected. The success of his candidacy up here would not be possible without your tireless efforts.
