U.S. Has Contingency Plans for a Draft of Medical Workers
The New York Times (not some weblog) writes, "WASHINGTON, Oct. 18 -

The Selective Service has been updating its contingency plans for a draft of doctors, nurses and other health care workers in case of a national emergency that overwhelms the military's medical corps. In a confidential report this summer, a contractor hired by the agency described how such a draft might work, how to secure compliance and how to mold public opinion and communicate with health care professionals, whose lives could be disrupted."

Its the simple and ugly truth - and our government is already starting to "focus group" this reality to see the best way to market it to the American public.

3. My Sister in law is a nurse, I have tried to explain to her and my brother
that this is in the works, they don't believe me. He is a cop and they have 2 kids under 3 - if she is drafted, they will be screwed. You think his lose of overtime would make him realize that * is not good for Amerika, but they both support him and will vote for him. (she thinks he is sexy :puke:)

5. I'm an RN
And I can goddamn well assure everybody that I WON'T be going to Iraq. I was against it when it began; I never supported it; and it's based on a pack of LIES. Georgie Bush* can send his two little angels over there to be killed instead.

6. Medical Draft
The Charleston Gazette

Wednesday 22 September 2004

(Newhouse News Service) "...reported the Pentagon is considering other "special skills" drafts, to include military linguists, computer experts or engineers, that could arise from other immediate needs.

"We're going to elevate that kind of draft to be a priority," Lewis Brodsky, acting director of the Selective Service System, told Newhouse News Service.

The plan calls for the president to issue a proclamation ordering 13.5 million health-care professionals to register for a draft within 13 days. Following the proclamation, Congress would quickly pass legislation authorizing the draft of health-care workers aged 20-44, and for the first time in U.S. history, the draft would include women.

The Pentagon would then inform the Selective Service System of the number of personnel needed for each of the 62 medical specialties. The news service said a separate draft lottery would be held for each specialty.

The Defense Department believes it could draft up to 80,000 personnel surgeons, dentists, nurses, X-ray personnel, paramedics, etc. within several months of the draft through the Military Entrance Processing Command.

7. merh--so sorry that they aren't open to the truth or
listen to you. That's a shame, as this could really affect them.

For anyone else here that works in healthcare, or knows someone that does please get the word out. Go to the links, copy the information, pass it out. If even one person considers the possibility of a draft, and it changes their mind about who to vote for we've done something great!

Suggestions of places to leave flyers of this information:

Local nursing schools (get the youth and medical vote in one blow).

Nursing homes (this administration doesn't care about the elderly, I feel confident in thinking that the medical personnel at convalescent hospitals may go first if there is a draft).

Dental offices

Hospitals

Doctors offices, etc.

If you decide not to print out the information from the links, write the links on index cards (or something cheap), and pass those out so they can check out the truth for themselves.

Medical schools

Medical assistant schools, trade schools, junior colleges

women's clinics (usually the women that serve as nurse practitioners, physician assistants, med assts., etc. are liberal) They may be more open to this information and willing to spread the word to vote on to their patients--many of which would not get care at all if not for these clinical facilities.

Any suggestions from anyone else?

:)
