Ahhnold to campaign in OH for Dimson
Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger plans a high-profile trip to the presidential battleground state of Ohio on the weekend before the Nov. 2 election -- an effort aimed at pumping up GOP voters and leveraging the governor's star power to boost President Bush's chances of success.

Though the governor downplayed the idea Tuesday of campaign appearances for Bush, insiders said plans are under way for a trip the weekend of Oct. 29 -- enabling the former Mr. Olympia to maximize his influence in Ohio, where he has real estate holdings and a following thanks to his annual Columbus-based Arnold Classic bodybuilding competition.

Some political insiders have wondered aloud why the most popular GOP politician in the nation -- who publicly broke ranks with Bush and his party on the issue of stem-cell research this week when he endorsed California's Proposition 71 -- has been noticeably absent from the campaign trail for the Republican president.

Schwarzenegger, again asked Tuesday by reporters about his campaign role for Bush, insisted "I have no plans,'' adding that when the president "comes out to California ... I will be there, ready to support him and campaign with him.''

Here's my letter

Subject: Another broken promise?

Dear Governor Schwarzenegger:

You cannot imagine my disappointment with the news I read today on SFGate indicating that you planned a trip to Ohio to support the candidacy of George W. Bush. I have to admit that I was pleased and relieved when I heard you promise, repeatedly, that you would only support George W. Bush when he visited our great state, and NOT on the campaign trail. I hope that this decision is not a precedent setting broken promise to the people of California.

You must also understand that when we elected you to office, we elected a strong willed moderate who captured the hopes of Californians all over the state. We understood that you would be leading from the middle, not from some crazed partisan stance as you and your colleagues showed at the Republican National Convention. We were disappointed with your choice to appear at the Convention as well as your speech in general.

You are letting us down Mr. Schwarzenegger and betraying your constituency here in California where we overwhelming oppose the election of George W. Bush. We did not elect you to be a cheerleader for the current administration, but rather to reach across the aisle HERE AT HOME and solve our divisions.

I beg you to reconsider this visit, and rather, to stay here in California until after the election to help us solve our own problems and build a better state.

Best regards,

David V*

12. Who cares.
People in Ohio who have lost or are worried about their jobs are not going to be star struck by California's Groping Governor. I mean seriously, do you really think that Arnold can make up for the quote by John Snow last week or for Bush's response to the debate question on jobs (i.e. you don't have jobs because our elementary and secondary schools suck)?? If an unemployed person chooses Shrub just because they really liked the Terminator movies, good riddance!

13. This IDIOT took 55% of the votes in California
I actually am afraid of him on the campaign trail and it was my #1 concern in the recall election we had here.

Remember California is probably the most progressive state in the union (tips cap to Massachusetts), and if we vote him in OVERWHELMINGLY, he's got some power.

I hope yo're right that Ohioans won't care!

14. But look at Arnie's competition-- it's a wonder he didn't get MORE
I mean, Bustamante, the Chicano Gray Davis? zzzzzzzzzzzz.......

Or Gary Coleman? Arriana Huffington? Peter Camejo? That porno actress?

Cripes, with competition like that, it's a miracle they even bothered to have an election. :D

15. LOL
I thought Peter Comejo was a great candidate, and I adore Arianna (mostly).

Comejo blew his career, though, by jumping on the Nader Ticket. Jerk.

I agree, though, that Bustamante was a bust.

And don't knock porn actresses!!!

;)

We'll see, how he does, I suppose in 2006, but I bet the Democrats just hand him a 2nd term and don't run a serious opponent.

Anyway, good points all around.

17. Actually, he only got 48% of the vote in CA
55% voted to recall Davis, I think, but only 48% voted to replace him with Arnold. That's not exactly overwhelming.

18. Is that right?
I can't remember for sure. I thought, though, that it was a clear majority.

Still, I guess you could say, it takes a lot of idiots to elect an idiot. (new title for a book!)

:)

20. Ahh, that's good news
I thought it was well over 50%, which means a lot in such a populous state.

Maybe we can aust him in 2006 after all!

Thanks Peter!
