5. I'm a bit surprised
that Moore would be on a panel supporting Clark. I know this is only one event and not an endorsement but I would think Moore would support someone more liberal and not someone who has ties to the Republican party.

7. :) Welcome to DU bigwillq... :)
You might also be surprised to compare the backgrounds
and platforms of both Dean and Clark, and see that Clark's
is consistently more progressive than Dean, who was a
very conservative governor.

Looking back:

Clark was one of the heroes of Samantha Power's Pulitzer prize
winning book ("A Problem From Hell") on "ethnic cleansing,"
because he spearheaded and lead one of the few (only?) "wars"
for strictly humanitarian reasons. He also tried like hell to
intervene in Rwanda's "ethnic cleansing," but the Pentagon wouldn't let him.

And he spent 34 years in the most integrated of US institutions,
the military, where he gained the loyalty and endorsement of at
least one female African American officer.

Looking ahead:

Clark's platform is more progressive than Dean's.
For example, he wants grants for higher education/college.
He seems to consider higher ed, the way to better one's life,
to be an entitlement. I agree.

Dean's policy is more of the same.
Loans.
Loans and debt and big profits for big companies from
all the loans and debt.

Again, welcome to DU...
Much to discuss!

8. Michael Moore want to win
http://www.geocities.com/hollywood_4_clark/bookquote.html

I put the extract from his latest book on my website
it explains in very clear detail why the left should do what it takes to win the election by any means necessary

"If it takes a pro-choice, pro-environment general who believes in universal health care and who thinks war is never the first answer to a conflict, if that is what it takes to remove these bastards and do the job the Democrats should have done in 2000-then that is what I am prepared to do. This involves a huge compromise on my part-will the losers who run the Democratic Party be willing to admit their mistakes and meet the millions like me halfway?"

10. This is a DISASTER for the party if true. . .
. . . Michael Moore is seen as a far-left lunatic by swing voters. If Moore endorses Clark, and Clark is the nominee, Karl Rove will paint him as a Moore-style lunatic.

Madonna's endorsement is already hurting Clark because she is seen as too liberal immoral, and she will turn off lots of swing voters too. If Clark is running a campaign to actually get elected, he needs to stop being soft on terror and soft on Hollywood filth sold to children.

13. A "liberal" cannot win the election. . .
. . . especially one with an endorsement from Michael Moore.

Electability matters.

Do you have any specific evidence for Madonna's endorsement hurting Clark or is this your anti-Clark theme of the day, Brian?

And most swing voters in the heartland are not going to go for Madonna. She isn't a champion of family values.

19. Voters....
Won't be voting for Madonna. I don't think that an endorsement from Madonna will stop anyone from voting for a National Treasure!

And swing voters will be voting Clark...so get over it!

21. Ah_the beauty of it all!
You are making the case for me, although I must say that I made it for myself last summer. Clark is a liberal...but...no one brands him with the label. Why? Because of the very, and I must say unfortunate, reason many people who think of themselves as liberals can't buy it: Four stars.

I read posts on this very board where people have admitted that Clark's positions are progressive--liberal--whatever you want to call it, and then they write, with no justification whatsoever, that it doesn't matter; he's from the military. At which point the post desolves into some BFEE rant.

What I see is that we can elect the very liberal president we've been hoping for, because the media and vast middle of America will think at the very least that Clark is in the center.

I believe that America really likes liberal policies because they are better than rightwing policies, and they work for the people of this country. The only reason people vote against their own self interests is because of the spin and the lies. Clark negates that spin because of who he is. He can be as liberal as he wants to be and nobody will ever notice. Michael Moore noticed, and he gets it. Madonna is a very bright woman who is great at marketing herself, and I am dismayed that others feel the right to trash someone that they've never met. Notice that on that same stage will be the Sec. of the Navy.

Personally, I think it is a thing of beauty.

22. First Madonna....now THIS
NOT a good idea, folks. Michael Moore is a knwon liar and propagandist. And he's coming out for General Clark?

Any more "good news " like this and we should just concede New Hampshire to Lieberman now.

And I had such high hopes for this race...

23. About Michael Moore
I hate Michael Moore as a facts guy, but I think he's a talented filmmaker. I hate Madonna for her crappy songs, and I hate her media whoring.

However, I think any "far-left" association will be balanced by Clark's military credentials and his "establishment" image. I think Howard Dean is just as establishment as Clark, but that's not what the media thinks, and that's all that really counts, right? You can't brand Wesley Clark as a pot-smoking hippie that avoids wars, since he's a stand-up guy who may be liberal but also fought wars as a soldier like in the "good old days".

24. I have lost faith in Michael Moore's judgement.
Having come from Michigan,I have always admired M.Moore. To think the crap he handed Gore in 00 and to settle for a former Republican whose stands on Moore's issues are questionable.
Mike . You better take a breather. You are working too hard.

25. Michael Moore Loves Wesley Clark
And I do a dance because I am on the same side as Michael Moore again. There was a terrible disturbance when we were on opposite sides when Michael Moore got involved in Ralph Nader's scene.

I'm more liberal than God and I like Wesley Clark.

26. This is so ammusing reading the spin.
Get real.
Anyone who got Moore's endorsement for their candidate would
be glad. He's the leading voice for the working class.
If he endorses my candidate, Clark, I'll be so proud.
