1. How do you know the person you're swapping with |
|
is going to vote for the candidate they SAY they'll support? I wouldn't trust anybody to vote the way I wanted them to. The only way to be sure you're voting for who you want to vote for is to pull the lever/mark the ballot/push the button yourself.

9. Yeah, but even if it was a best friend living in another state? |
|
If my best friends--known for 23 years now--said they were going to switch votes with me, I'd trust them.

You sign on the internet and let's say an Illinois voter switches his vote for Kerry with an Ohio voter who is going to vote for Nader. There is no way to make sure the other people lives up to their word. You aren't voting for who you believe in.

10. Well if you live in a red state, I suppose it would be worth a shot |
|
My thinking is though if someone is so set on voting for Nader in Ohio, then they clearly don't care enough about electing Kerry. The fact that someone else is going to vote for Nader doesn't seem like it would make them feel 'good' enough.

8. could get freeped too.. |
|
A secret Bush-supporter in Ohio could convince a Kerry-supporter to trade their vote to a vote for Nader, while the Bush supporter goes ahead and votes for Bush.

3. You should steer clear of that stuff |
|
In addition to any possible legal implications, a vote swap essentially means:
Your Kerry vote + A Swing Stater's Nader Vote = 2 Nader Votes
Unless you can walk into the voting booth with the other person, it's not worth it.

5. The idea has never really caught on... |
|
probably for the exact reasons that Lindacooks pointed out. It's hard to trust that the person on the other end of the deal will follow through on the agreement. I think it's kind of a neat idea, but I don't think I could ever feel totally confident about it.

7. I know someone who is voting for Nader, and |
|
since I live in North Dakota, and he lives in Minnesota, I found 4 other people who didn't care about their vote, and we offered to exchange our 5 votes and switch them to Nader, if he would switch his one to Kerry.

11. Why, so that some Nader loser can have a clear conscience? No thanks. |
|
Anyone who votes for Nader should do so with the full weight of their actions resting right on their own two shoulders.
How anyone could even CONSIDER doing this is beyond my imagination.
A vote for Nader is a vote for Bush, no matter where it takes place.

12. We need to give Kerry a mandate. |
|
If he goes into the WH with a solid majority in the popular vote, he will have a true mandate to push all of his campaign promises early. The electoral college may govern our perception of the race, each vote does matter to the candidates who understand this government, i.e. not bush.
If you want Kerry to win, but live in a solid red state (like me, Indiana) please vote Kerry. He doesn't think it's worthless. (Nader voters are likely going to scam you, anyway.)
