"The bottom line: I ask you to trust me." An imagined final Kerry speech
"As candidate, I've laid out my postions on the issues, but now I need to ask for something more: I need to ask you to trust me.

I ask you to trust me with the security of the nation. I'll tell you the truth: no one can guarantee an end to terrorism. But a Kerry-Edwards administration will pursue the fight on terror with all possible vigor.

We will insure that enough resources are provided, both to policemen and firemen at home and to our soldiers abroad.

We will never take our eye off the ball. We will focus on this one overriding goal. And we will seek all the help we can get - even from foreign countries- in achieving it.

I ask you to trust me on the economy. Let me tell you the truth here: No president can guarantee jobs. But a Kerry-Edwards administration will do everything possible to promote job creation.

We will discourage outsourcing.

We will make health care a priority, not an afterthought.

Above all, we will not jeopardize our country's economic future through a huge tax givaway to the wealthy. A Kerry-Edwards administration will ask millionaires to pay their fair share of taxes, as patriotic Americans.

I think my record - my real record, not the distortions of the attack ads- I think my record is worthy of your trust. But the decision is yours. I ask for your trust, and your vote, and I will do my utmost not to let you down."

--------

Why? Because Kerry can't do "fake-friendly", but he CAN be who he really is - a serious candidate with a ring of integrity.

And because he needs to ASK the American people for something - not tell them or demand or lecture them. Simple, clear and short.

...wish I were a speechwriter...

1. Good point
All he has to do is keep telling the truth and he wins!
Level with the people-We know it'll take time to fix the mistakes, we just want to know that they WILL be fixed, We just want to see SOME progress in the right direction.
We also know he'll have to do SOME sucking up to get allies back on our side and prove that America can be trusted.
Kerry has a brain! He can walk and chew gum at the same time! He may not be the ideal choice(who is?)but he CAN do the "hard work" its going to take to change direction.
