Has a Pollster Called You?
Edited on Fri Oct-22-04 12:52 PM by Jack_Dawson
Specifically, for this election? I've never been one of the "1,204 likely voters called" for any election.

I've never heard of anyone I know being called.

1. Nope
Never been called by a pollster in my life, and I've never voted for a Republican in my life. Coincidence?

3. No, but I was invited to dinner with Bush today
I got a call and as a small business owner, I was invited to sit down to dinner with "president" Bush and area leaders. I said I wasn't a fan of his and wouldn't be voting for him so no thank you. (I wanted to say something clever or whatever but I was in the middle of frosting my hubby's b-day cake).

Oh, and I'm not a small business owner. I think they got my name because I do contract work with the USDA and Smithsonian Institution once in a while (I used to work there). I tend to get a lot of calls about business owners.

9. I've had a couple recorded messages on the ans machine
when I got home that said something to the effect "This is an automated telephone poll. We'll try again later."

I seem to remember that when the polling results in 2000 were so wrong one of the reasons given was that people screen their calls and don't pick up if it's a polling organization. Sounds like a lame excuse but let's hope the polls are way off again this time and Kerry stomps Shrub's ass.

10. Yes we have been called by a pollster
and we took the survey. And both my husband and I are registered Democrats in Southern California---a very Kerry state.

Although, I did just change from Green Party to Democrat about six months ago and that might be why.

17. I got one strange automated one that seemed to be focused on Nader.
1. How likely are you to vote? Scale 1-5

2. Press a number for who you are going to vote for - 1. Kerry, 2. Bush, 3. Nader

3. How likely are you to change your vote to Nader? Scale 1-5

A lot of people on this board living in swing states also got this call but we never could figure out who was doing it.

Before I moved a year ago, I was on the Zogby telephone calling list. I loved that.

Several times, so many times in fact, I'm not even sure who all has called. Sometimes I get them, sometimes my husband does. State polls and national polls. It was really heavy in September. Not lately though, maybe that's good news for Oregon???

22. Yes! I got called back in July by American Research Group.
I think right around the time that Kerry announced Edwards as his VP. That is my first and only time. It took about five minutes and they really focused on union issues once I told them my husband belongs to a union. I thought it was kind of cool to finally be asked after being a registered voter 30+ years.

36. I used to work for Gallup before they closed their Austin offices.
This was back in 2002. I left in February that year.

They always put their newest interviewer hirees on the political polls. And for every completed poll, there were at least 50 unanswered calls or rejects or answering machines or call screening services. And it got worse and worse as time went along.

The interviewers were overwhelmingly liberal liberal liberal. The management was a bit more Republican, or so it seemed..

41. Pollster
The only poll I did was for CoX cable/CBS during the last debate. I have digital cable, so what I had to do after each question was to answer on the TV screen with my remote who gave the best answer Kerry, Bush or tie. This result of this poll showed that Kerry was the big winner. Otherwise I have never been contacted by other pollsters. The last time I was polled was in '92 by the Rocky Mountain pollsters.

46. Called numerous times this election
I was never called until I moved here to Western North Carolina. I lived in New Orleans for a decade and never got a call. I have been called at least twice a week for the past 6 weeks from polling companies conducting State or National polls. They may continue calling since I always take the time to answer instead of just hanging up. Some pollsters take 10 minutes with their questions, and some have just been short 3 question polls. My answers are generally the same. I assume that I am now getting called either because - 1. I registered independent, or 2. I live in Edward's state.

51. called numerous times this election
They identified themselves as different polling companies. It was different names each time. Some numbers showed up on my caller ID, and some just showed "imcomplete info" or "private number". I did not pay attention to the company names, but they never introduced themselves by a well known name such as NBC, CNN, or Zogby.

I have received 2 calls from the Repub party asking the same questions. They asked things like how I feel about abortion and how I feel about W's performance. I told them just how I feel. I didn't realize it was sponsored by the Repubs until the end of the call.

I also got a zogby survey in my email after the first and third debates. I took both of them. They are very in debth.
