1. I volunteer
to go to Hawaii and campaign on behalf of John Kerry... because campaigning in Hawaii and catering to the surfer dude demographics is hard work!

2. Gosh, this is absurd
First they say New Jersey, now Hawaii. What's next I suppose Massachusetts??

And why no talk about Texas as a swing state?

It would make as much sense!

5. Whatever
This is just baloney. I hope Bush spends more time in PA, New Jersey, and Hawaii, because you know, they're "close."

8. I just skimmed through the article and didn't see any evidence to support
the repub contention that it is close.

I'm beginning to think the repubs are afraid that their voters may stay home if they feel Bush is going to lose. I'm hearing every possible attempt to spin this as a dead heat whenever polls are mentioned but when I read some of the side stories it seems Kerry has the majority of support on all issues but terror wars. Bush is stuck with 47% support among voters and in approval rating. I think he has peaked and can't get any higher. If his base suspects this they will stay home and he will lose the battle ground states. The repubs are growing desperate.

I doubt I will hear any news stories saying that Kerry looks like the most likely winner even if he leads Bush on all counts.

9. Bush polling 41% makes this a swing state?
The reporter admits that internal polls and the last public poll show Kerry up a comfortable 7%. Assuming that even half of the undecideds go to Kerry, he'll win comfortably.

11. I wish we were as safe as you guys seem to think...
Remember Linda Lingle won the Governors race. I am sorry to tell you it's not so democratic anymore.

12. Several states in the solidly Dem New England have Rep governors.
Edited on Fri Oct-22-04 01:53 PM by elperromagico
Are they conservative Republicans? No, they lean more moderate, particularly on social issues, than Bush. That's how they win in solidly Dem states. It's the same way Olympia Snowe and Lincoln Chafee win Senate seats in Maine and Rhode Island - they're not Bush-style conservative Republicans.

It's my understanding that Governor Lingle supports a woman's right to choose and regards gay marriage as an issue that should be left up to the states. Those are just two issues, of course, but they lead me to believe that Lingle is a lot like the New England Republicans who hold statewide office: She's a moderate.

Long story short - I don't think having a Republican governor is necessarily an indication that a state is Republican.

Let me put it another way... :D

Q: What do Kansas, Wyoming, Oklahoma, and Indiana all have in common?

A: They all have Democratic governors.

Q: What else do Kansas, Wyoming, Oklahoma, and Indiana have in common?

A: None of them are going to go for John Kerry.
