Bush, Kerry Trade Barbs in Pennsylvania, Ohio

At 00:45

Reporter:

President Bush started the day in Pennsylvania, a state he has visited 41 times since taking office.

This morning he spoke in a hockey arena in Wilkes Barre.

"Just seems like yesterday I was here in Wilkes Barre. But come to think of it, I was."

But that folksy greeting quickly gave way to a speech that contained a sustained assault on John Kerry, portraying the Democrat as a man who won't do what is necessary to protect the nation.

Before the president took the stage, images from the World Trade Center wreckage played on the arena's giant TV screens.

2. So it's come down to this....
...the entire Bush campaign, the entire administration:

MOSLEMS ARE COMING TO YOUR TOWN TO KILL YOUR BABIES!

That's all they've got, and if it works it works, if it doesn't, they lose....

8. That will be the follow up to the Wolf commercial. Attacking children.
Actually the wolves looked more like the large Coyotes we see in Missouri. Some of these mutts top out at 70 pounds. This imagery is supposed to represent those Muslim terra-ests.

46. This letter details impeachable offenses...
Why is it that noone has made the final blow? The fact that Bush used 911 as a launching platform for a war he was already planning for his own benefit???

Why has that FACT not been made so blatantly apparent to those who believe otherwise that Bush would be forced to answer for his crimes???

(and make no mistake, his actions as president have been criminal.)

I for one am pissed that noone in the Dept. of Justice or in Congress has taken action against the sonofabitch...

77. What about Iraq Casualties?
911- we know the numbers but Iraq/Afghanistan keeps growing.

The list is 1100 dead and over 8000 wounded? Why aren't these numbers posted daily or at least used as a talking point? Especially with
Veterans Affairs and services being cut. There is one ad running in PA of a soldier who lost his hand. But there are thousands of paraplegic National Guard people coming home that no one talks about!

55. What a heartbreak!!!! This letter - man, I'm just speechless.
I cannot even begin to understand this woman's grief or loss. But I can step up to stand beside her and rip those stupid play-acting costumes away from bush and push him out of power. In fact, I fired his ass on Tuesday when I sent in my absentee ballot. Would also have liked to include a warrant for his arrest, but I have no authority there.

When I joined DU there was a lot of talk about LIHOP and MIHOP. I don't know where those guys went, but if anyone is still around I want you to know - you've convinced me of LIHOP and I've become very open-minded to the possibility of MIHOP.

75. The political opportunism is disgusting
Whether LIHOP or MIHOP, or just slipped by him, the way Bush is milking 9/11 is sickening!!!!!! People didn't die on that day for him to be re-elected. One wants to ask that bastard, if we had not been attacked, what in the world would you base your campaign on? No child left behind?
Well on that day, many children were left behind by their parents because our president was on perpetual vacation.

but, I'm not surprised.

with the release of the PIPA report today... the republican 'trifecta' of HATE, FEAR and IGNORANCE is a fact.

their campaign is about HATING Kerry and "his liberals friends in Congress"

their campaign is about FEAR.

and, their campaign capitalizes on the IGNORANCE of those they have exploited with HATE and FEAR.

19. I'd love to see this.
"Images from the World Trade Center wreckage play on TV screens."

Then a voice says, "I'm George W. *, and I LET this happen."

Picture of WTC fades to flag draped coffins being unloaded from military planes.

Another voice, "I'm George W. *, and I MADE this happen."

Multiple coffins fade to one in a cemetery, just after the funeral service.

Last voice says, "I'm the mother of this soldier. Don't let this happen to you."

Fades out to the words "Kerry/Edwards 2004"

27. It happened on his watch !!!
I still can't figure out how he gets to
use 9/11 as a campaign issue when it
happened because of his callous disregard
for his intelligence sources. A month
before the attacks, he gets a report
that says Bin Laden is poised to attack,
brushes it aside and continues his vacation.
A month later, the towers come down.
Gee, this guy makes me feel real safe !!!

Someone needs to do a commercial with vicious
looking wolves circling the Twin Towers, obviously
C/G graphics would be required, with overlays of
the memos warning of an attack superimposed ...

28. Wilkes-Barre area
Edited on Sat Oct-23-04 09:21 AM by LibDemAlways
needs jobs, not threats of terrorism. Kerry spoke in Wilkes Barre last week and talked about things that matter to the people in the area - jobs, social security, health care, Medicare. Chimp keeps showing up there, probably because his advisors have told him it's a heavily Catholic area. What they seem to have missed is that the jobs have gone, and the senior population is huge. I have several cousins there - all in their 50s and 60s. Their kids all moved to DC to find work. Look in the local paper at the listings of senior clubs and organizations -- many hundreds. Those seniors are going to vote for the guy who is going to bring jobs to the area so that maybe their kids and grandkids won't have to move away, the guy who is going to strengthen Social Security and work to give them a real prescription drug benefit. That guy is John Kerry. Chimp is wasting his time.

29. John Edwards said that Bush is using scare tactics to resteal the WH
>>The Kerry campaign immediately responded, with a spokesman for the Democratic senator saying the president was using "the politics of fear" out of desperation.

Campaigning in Boynton Beach, Fla., Mr. Kerry's running mate, John Edwards, said the president is "continuing to try to scare America in his speeches and ads in a despicable and contemptible way."

Then, in a measure of the lightning speed of the two campaigns in the final days before the election, the Democratic Party released a commercial that features a soaring eagle and an ostrich with its head in the sand.

The ad asks: "Given the choice, in these challenging times, shouldn't we be the eagle again?"<<

But, then, I've seen some incredibly ignorant people support him.

Yesterday, one of our local news stations was interviewing Bush supporters. They asked one "soccer mom" why she was voting for Bush.

She said, and I kid you not, "Because he just seems like a guy we could invite over for Sunday lunch."

Yeah, that's a great reason to vote for someone. He's a complete moron, utterly incompetent, but damn, if he isn't a good guy to have over for lunch!

54. Re: Agreed. You'd have to be incredibly ignorant to vote for this guy.
How about this one? - I live in Wisconsin and a couple weeks back, I saw this on msnbc.com:
********
U.S. Rep. Mark Green, R-Hobart, who will be with Bush today in Wisconsin, said Bush’s chances to win the state this year are excellent.

“This is a state that is not terribly partisan,” Green said. “It’s a blue-collar, conservative state. We watch the Badgers on Saturday and the Packers on Sunday. We hunt in the fall and snowmobile in the winter. The candidate who I think represents those values best wins. I think clearly between John Kerry and George Bush, Bush represents those values.”
*********

WTF??? First off - exactly how does Bush represent these values and Kerry doesn't?? Second - gee, thanks Mark for essentially telling the rest of the country that we're a bunch of dumb morons in Wisconsin who couldn't care less about issues like the farce in Iraq and the skyrocketing national debt - we only care about issues like football and hunting.

I wrote an email to Mark Green telling him that basically he was an idiot, but I never heard back from him. :)

58. Yikes.
I love how he said, "not terribly partisan" and "conservative" within a few words of each other. You know that he really means "Conservative" (capital "C"), equating it with Republican.

That is pretty scary. Sometimes, I think people just shut off their brains when election time comes around (or never turn them on in the first place). They vote based on completely irrelevant bases and ignore the fact that Iraq, Afghanistan, job losses, the economy, education, etc., even exist.

Someone should also tell him that everything he mentioned covers only August - March or so.

What do Wisconsin residents do the rest of the year? (Look forward to hunting and football? ;))

45. That's despicable.
What's even worse in NBC doing it for him. The Today show last week inserted a shot of smoking WTC rubble when reporting on a Bush stump speech during which he invoked 9/11. No graphics inserted to enhance Kerry's points, of course.

49. Put that reviling prick on a lie detector
ask him if he isn't happy that 911 was such a tragedy....when he answered no, the needle would fly off the machine and hit the wall.

I hope someone will come forward who has the proof that he's committed treason and they put that bastard away in a dungeon with rats.

50. Maybe he should also have...
... read them all the closing chapter of The Pet Goat.

Since that was what he was listening to while the wreckage was occuring !

56. Audacious! Now can we attack Bush on his 9/11 failures?!
Remember when the Swift boat liars attacked and the press gave them a free pass because Kerry had "opened the door" by showcasing the Band of Brothers at the DNC?

With his audacious use of the Trade Tower footage, Bush has just "opened the door" for a stark and serious challenge of his intelligence and leadership failures leading up to 9/11.

65. One tragedy to cover up another, now isn't that pathetic.
As 9\11 shows the most lack luster start to a presidency in modern history, then came another <pearl harbor>.And what sort of audience would be moved, by the most horrific sight in years.

I would like to see this be front page news in the New York tabloids. We need to find out exactly what images they are showing.

72. Did anyone think he wouldn't?
These guys have no scruples, and will try ANYTHING to win this. The only thing I would have been surpised about, is if this group of thugs HADN'T tried to capitalize on this. They're shameless. So what else is new? Thats why we have to steel ourselves and expect anything from this crew!

80. Bush barely spent any time in NYC during his own convention.
Edited on Mon Oct-25-04 09:24 AM by CBHagman
Didn't he just come in for the acceptance speech and then go right to Pennsylvania?

And I know for a fact that New Yorkers were treated like undesirables during the convention.

Yet he's willing to exploit the horror and despair of that city for his own advantage.

May he be punished for that.
