The Chris Matthews Show was interesting tonight
here in L.A. we get it Saturday nights at 6.30; I think the rest of you get to see it tomorrow. I'll go with the bad stuff first and then the good.

1. Howard Fineman and Andrew Sullivan think Teresa is a "disaster." Andrea Mitchell and the BBC woman, whose name I forget, disagree. Interesting that it breaks along gender lines.

2. In "Tell Me Something I Don't Know," Andrew says MI is trending to george and that, if he pulls that off, all bets are off. I don't even think Andrew believes it will happen, though.

3. Andrea says two interesting things: Powell is working to get discussions going with N Korea again (ummmmmm.....that's what Kerry recommended) and that Richard Holbrooke does NOT want to be Sec. of State. He wants to be NSA instead. They tossed out some names for State, including Biden, Lugar, and Hagel. I don't believe any of those names, BTW.

4. Best news of all. They all thought--including Andrew Sullivan and Mrs. Greenspan--that the election is now Kerry's to lose. He just has to convince people that he's worth the vote, etc. There was still some other stupid shit about people hating george more than they like Kerry, but I don't give a fuck. I'll disregard it for now.

8. They had it a tie, incredibly enough
but remember: Noonan is workin gon george's campaign AND on that board.

I don't know that those "who won the week" things are important anyhow, if the polls are to believed. They clearly thionk the momentum is with Kerry and that question is just a press corps circle jerk.

2. Biden would be a great choice for Sec'y of State...BUT...
that's one less Democrat in the Senate.

7. Sam Nunn would be cool.
Or a GOP senator from a state with a Dem governor.

16. No, no, no
Kerry can't diss California by putting in Nunn

He pretty much single-handedly plunged the aerospace industry in CA into a depression by moving it all to his home state.

Plus, he's the one who dealt the biggest blow to Clinton's attempts to get rid of anti-gay bigotry in the military.

21. For Defense, I'd look to Kerrey or Cleland
Graham might be good at "Homeland Security." but I hope they start by renaming it something less Nazi-esque

24. The Kerry-Kerrey contrast is too goofy.
How about this curveball: Robert Kennedy Jr. for Sec of Interior?

Homeland Security = Bob Graham

Sec of State = Wesley Clark

Defense Sec = Carl Levin

Two Kerr(e)ys in an administration would be too confusing.

42. Nunn is an old fashioned homophobe
I read years ago that when Nunn was in the US Senate, he fired any staff member he discovered to be gay. Just a wonderful man, no doubt.

Gov gets to pick the replacement until a special election.

37. Delaware has a Democratic governor, Ruth Ann Minner
A very large and very well spoken blonde woman. I'm fairly certain she will win re-election this year. I saw one debate and the GOP nominee, a former judge named Bill Lee, was generally on the defensive and unimpressive. Minner won the debate.

41. Biden will be awful
If we really want to mend the fences with our allies, we need someone who will be a diplomat. I've heard Biden speaking about his interactions with foreign leaders, and he is a total ass.

I wonder if John Kerry even knows yet who he will be appointing? I think he has other concerns at the moment.

Unless it is as US ambassador to the UN. The Moonie Times rumor was that he wanted to be Sec General... but, permanent members of the Security Council can't be Sec. General.

Aren't he and Holbrooke good friends? That would be nice, having a SoS and NSA who are on the same page.

Clark would be perfect for SoS.

32. THK is wonderful I went to hear her speak and she was so warm and
insightful. She is soft spoken and an excellent speaker. She reminds me of a European friend of mine - very worldly. I love the new perspective she will bring to the White House. She IS NOT a disaster at all - It's just a notion the Repubs are trying to plant.

17. Andrew Sullivan --- ha ha Michigan is Bush Country !
You have some of the biggest unions like the Autoworkers centered right there, and the most anti-union administration in years... what possible evidence that MI would go to the Repukes!

Glad to hear the panel saying its Kerry's to lose. I hope this sentiment keeps the Repukes stay on the defensive... Now they have a new issue to deal with... Why after four years in office is * losing the race!

30. They can't stand a powerful woman
I think Teresa Heinz Kerry is handling this beautifully.

My God, the woman is a billionaire, speaks 7(?) languages fluently
and is one of the most influential women in environment issues
today.

She's gonna kick ass being first lady, a real partner for Kerry...

but this creepy fucks just can't stand a powerful woman.

Everytime she even hints she isn't some dewy eyed dope, they jump on her and try to eat her alive...so far, she's escaped.

Makes me sick, but you think the women in this country would
wise up fast and realize Kerry is gonna be on their side.

He's married a woman who in many ways (unless he gets President)
is more powerful than him and to me, that says he's walking the walk
on equality issues.
