I don't know about you people, but...
Edited on Sat Oct-23-04 11:19 PM by northwest
I'm seeing WAY too many * bumper stickers and yard signs around here. During the first week or so of my counting (late Sept.), I counted Kerry bumper stickers outnumbering the * ones, but now I'm seeing * stickers on a LOT more cars the past couple weeks, even a LOT more have those yellow ribbon magnets, and quite a few more "W" stickers on cars. There's now even a few dorm windows on my campus with * lawn signs on them.

I walked back home from the football game today, and was aghast at the number of right-wing crap on a lot of these cars in the parking lot. I hope it's because I live in a red state that's going completely *, but this is a fairly evenly-split 50/50 liberal/conservative city I'm in.

I hope the stories I'm hearing from all of you about Kerry signs and bumper stickers everywhere are true, especially those of you in swing states. Because right now, I'm just seeing too much * crap here.

People here are dumbasses.

3. Same here... almost...
A few more BC04 stickers, but I see more Kerry stuff too popping up.

But what's really, really strange are all these f*cking ribbon stickers. I saw them popping up at gas station checkout counters about a month or month and a half ago and now they are on every 3rd or 4th vehicle I see on the road. What the hell?

However, I wouldn't say the "Support Our Troops" thing to be a sign of right-wingedness, but it's certainly sold in the jingoistic spirit. Those stickers aren't cheap, either -- obviously someone is making a mint off of this brand of patriotism lite.

4. I did see a yellow ribbon magnet with a Kerry/Edwards sticker on a car.
So they may not be necessarily partisan.

8. I have a yellow ribbon magnet that says "USMC"
for my son. I wouldn't count those as necesarily pro-* either. I'm certainly not on his side!

19. I have one of those yellow ribbon magnets
on my car, right next to a Kerry bumper sticker. It says 'support our troops'. And I do think they need our support. They didn't decide to go to war, * did.

6. Don't be too stereotypical like I had been....
I've canvassed throughout my whole precinct and much to my surprise, most of the houses that had flags and patriotic decorations and, yes, yellow ribbons, belonged to Democrats!!!! I no longer think everyone who bears patriotic paraphenalia on their cars and around their homes are RWingers. As a matter of fact, after I came to this realization, I went on the internet and searched for the yellow ribbons and bought 2 for my car to place alongside of my Kerry/Edwards, Veterans for Kerry, and democraticunderground.com bumper stickers. One says "pray for our troops" and the other is camoflauge that says "proudly served". I hope THAT puts a wrench in some conservatives thinking.

7. I know, I didn't mean to sound negative...
It's just that after seeing the flag flapping in my face for so many months now by the hard right, it's difficult to separate the sticker from the stereotype. :(

10. Oh believe me I know. I have been thinking the same thing.
But I decided I'm not going to let my dislike of the RW claim on the flag affect my love for my country and display of it. I always have supported our men and women but I haven't always been one to display it because I always associated the "flag wavers" with hardline conservative types. No more. They will not take my claim for our flag or our troops.

since we invaded Iraq. And I won't fly it again until the war is over. I am embarrassed to be an American these days.

9. 100% of the bumper stickers I see are for Kerry
But then again, I live in Canada, and the only Americans who bring their cars are the ones from the Northeast. Still, it's nice to see. No yard signs, though.

This is the first year I've ever even SEEN ANY Democratic presidential yardsigns at all!!! So seeing any at all is a BIG accomplishment and it is saying something here. I think the Repubs have been threatened by this even though the Democratic presidential yards signs are STILL in the minority because the B/C signs are flying up left and right!!!

15. You're in a college town
Just think about it this way-- college towns attract people from all over the state and from neighboring (or not) states as well. So the population there probably wouldn't be indicative of how the state is going to vote or of what the poll of the state's voters would look like (unless CNN or Gallup were doing it).

17. College Football tickets are expensive.
So is spending the weekend away from home:

1. Kennel for the dog.
2. Kids farmed out.
3. Hotel at your destination.
4. Tickets and parking
5. Cooler team-color clothes than your friends
6. Gasoline to get to the game.
7. etc.

Regular people are working, sleeping off the (over) work week, and if they are fans, will get to listen to the game on the radio.

I wouldn't go by the College football fans. They probably were able to afford to go to college in the first place, which makes them slightly elite from the rest of the population to start with.

22. There isn't one * sign on my street yet
But there are at least a half dozen other yards with Kerry signs and signs for other Democrats.

As for bumper stickers, I think many Kerry/Edwards supporters simply don't want their cars keyed or special treatment from law enforcement.

23. I have NO idea if this could be the cause for what you are seeing,
but I remember a lot of people on DU complaining about how hard it was to get signs, stickers, buttons, etc., from Kerry HQ. They ordered things and had to wait forever to get them. Maybe the * people have a better system at getting out the goods?

Where my parents live, there are few Kerry signs, more * signs. They live in a retirement area that has RULES about things you can and cannot put up in front of your house. A few Kerry yard signs showed up down the street from my parents just last week. The * yard signs have been out for over a month.

I copied a Kerry/Edwards sign online, printed them up and put them in my parents windows. I couldn't talk my Dad into yard signs, but the window signs look really good. (He's afraid of offending his golfing buddies - ALL repubs - so I didn't push him on it. They don't talk politics at all. They just want to play golf. lol.)

So maybe people just can't get them? Do like I did. Go to any site selling Kerry stuff, copy it, print it out and pass em' out to anyone you know who might want one, or two or three. Heck, I even copied buttons, went to Michael's craft store, bought the plastic buttons that you can put your own pics or whatever into, and I've been passing them out. I could not afford the 'real' ones. I figured John Kerry would rather have his name out there even if I cheated a little, than to not have it out here at all. Hope he'll forgive me. :)

24. When I was in SW Michigan last weekend
I noticed that I'd see 4 or 5 houses in a row with a Kerry sign in the lawn. Then, there would be one house for BushCo, but they'd have 10 signs plus banners and flags.

My husband remarked later how many Dumbya signs he'd seen. I laughed and told him what I saw and later on that day, when we were out driving again, he told me I was right.

Typical Repug behavior. Be obnoxious, scream and lie all you want, just repeat it enough times and people will think it's true.
