Morans: Houston Chronicle endorses Bush

The United States faces severe problems at home, as well as abroad. The Chronicle implores Bush to use a second term, if voters grant him one, to regain the bipartisan spirit on which he based his earlier success in Texas. One way to do that is to broaden his range of advisers. Bush recently told Washington Post reporter Bob Woodward that the war on terror had caused him to live inside a bubble that shielded him from outside voices. In Texas, one of Bush's principal mentors and allies was a Democrat, the late Lt. Gov. Bob Bullock. ........

During a second term, Bush must work to expand health insurance to all Americans. Rising health costs are draining employers' resources and depriving millions of Americans of coverage. This, in turn, drives up the burden on taxpayers as the uninsured turn to public hospitals and crowded emergency rooms when their illness becomes a crisis.

During a second term, Bush must balance his desire for extended tax relief with the necessity of the federal government to pay as it goes. ........

The ticket of George Bush and Vice President Dick Cheney has a proven if flawed track record.

1. They're insane.
Doing the same thing over and over again, expecting different results.

Or maybe they're politically retarded. Who knows?

2. gee-dubya and $hrubco is texas' last presidential hurrah...
the texas, white, good-ol-boy, conservative, republican mafia doesn't have anybody of real promise in the pipeline. bugman delay made his power play and now appears he's getting his hand slapped. And it's only a matter of time until the democratic voting minoritry population in texas swings the state to blue.

6. The Chronicle has been surprising critical of Bush in editorials, but
they get creamed in letters to the editor for it. People claiming to cancel subscriptions and calling it a shill for Democrats. One editorial this summer referred to "President Kerry".

There was a big flap a few months ago when they reported on a soldier's death in Iraq and quoted something a family member said and stated it as critical of Bush's policy in Iraq. The right wing radio here got ahold of the story and went to the family who said they support Bush and there was a big "Boycott the Chronicle" flame that the local Clear Channel radio stations fanned for a couple of weeks or more. The Chronicle ended up apologizing to the family.

I really think the Chronicle editor doesn't like Bush, but he wants to stay in business.

The Chronicle HATES DeLay, and this isn't the first time they've endorsed his opponent.

8. Glad I don't subscribe to those buttholes.
They used to call my home all the time to buy a yearly subscription to their paper until when I finally told them to stop calling because it will be a cold day in hell before I subscribe to that rag. I will never forgive them for running the other major newspaper out of business!
