An Ohio paper that switches from Shrub!
Ellie had posted earlier about this but I just got up and was delighted to see that my hometown pape, The Toledo Blade, has seen the light. I wanted to share it with you again.

The Blade endorsed * in 2000 and I've been a little nervous about it until ten minutes ago.

The Blade won a Pullitzer earlier this year about their "Tiger Force" series regarding Viet Nam atrocities.

Here's Ellie's post from a few hours earlier:

Here's the link to the Blade Opinion Page:

1. Great editorial
I'm starting to view most of these endorsements (Plain Dealer aside) less as attempts to persuade a readership than as reflections of the mood of the local readerships (and electorates).

Excerpts:

. . .

John Kerry is a bright man, a serious and skilled practitioner of the art of government. It is no accident he performed so well in the presidential debates. If being "presidential" is difficult to define, Americans at least know it when they see it, and they saw it in John Kerry in his three encounters with Mr. Bush.

. . .

In Texas politics, it is said, the man with the biggest belt buckle wins. But America, in 2004, deserves a president who brings more to Washington than swagger.

Americans should end the unhappy presidency of George W. Bush and elect John Kerry. That is America's best hope for a more prosperous and more secure future.

Dare we wish anything less for our children?
