Bush 'not competent', Maine's Kennebec Journal endorses KERRY

"The presidency of George W. Bush is a disaster. It is time for him to be replaced by John F. Kerry.

Bush is not competent to continue serving in the highest office of the world's most powerful and richest nation.

His understanding of national and global affairs is frighteningly -- and embarrassingly -- inadequate. His domestic and foreign policies are much too radical.

In 2000, Bush won by promoting his "compassionate conservatism." He called himself "a uniter, not a divider."

Over the past four years, Bush has been the opposite. His extreme conservatism and partisanship have widened the divide among Americans.

The country cannot endure another four years of Bush's bold claims and unkept promises, which since January 2001 have resulted in tragedy after disaster after calamity....(more)

If Americans want to again stand tall and proudly, they should vote for John F. Kerry on Nov. 2.

I don't know if this has been posted on DU yet, but they endorsed Bush in 2000.

The next four years of the war against terrorism will be defined by what happens next in Iraq. Will the United States seek allies throughout the Middle East and the world to build support for pulling Iraq back from the chaos of a growing civil war or will it stay a failing course? John Kerry has shown throughout his Senate career that he understands the way to build strong and lasting alliances is through respect for the ideas of other nations, leadership by example abroad and strict standards for human rights always. These are the traditions of which the United States is most proud and most justifiably proud. It is the way presidents from both parties have led for a generation and, with a few terrible exceptions, for much of the nation's history.

Bush in 2000 based on his humility, optimism, a professed compassionate brand of Republicanism and, after the divisive years between the White House and Congress in the 1990s, his pledge to be a uniter, not a divider. Those traits have arisen occasionally in the last four years, but not often.
