DID * have a plan?
Ok, we all like to say that he didn't have a plan. To us, Iraq looks like a terrible failure. This article shows a "no plan to win the peace" outlook: http://www.harpers.org/BaghdadYearZero.html

But... what if we're wrong? What if we underestimated Bush, the neocons, and whoever else?

This article shows Iraq in a far different light. A scary light.

I don't think we've gotten our minds around their agenda far enough to understand what they're doing. This sort of evil is incomprehensible to us... so, many of us never even consider it.

Both articles are quite long, but I hope you'll read at least the second one.

1. Fantasy versus grim reality?
Partition, divide and conquer and lots of death and chaos were not part of the "rosy scenario". However in this case as in so many others regarding Bush disasters, intentionality is not all that important(until you get them before the Hague). The goals are fixed, the use of "absolute" power unstoppable. They will keep working the game until they are absolutely nailed.

The reason they even believed the rosy scenario in the first place is simple. The other one, even if admitted to themselves, is too hard, too risky, too... well not simple enough for the "dream" team. Nor are they up to the task of going the smart route against a tougher scenario. That is why quagmire, discouragement, lies and defeat set in faster than the cleverly nefarious bent they NEED to move to.

It is blowing up in Sharon's face too. Was it worth it? No, it was nuts.
So many Macbeths, so little hope. So much devastation around them.
