Team America:World Police has ugly GOP bias
Edited on Sun Oct-24-04 08:41 PM by SoCalDemocrat
I'm not patronizing those "fucks"

Meanwhile, you can read a review. Read the captions at the right to see what they had to say about Michael Moore. They also did a hatchet job on liberal activits. Of course there was no counter parody of the right going on in this film.

Their title song "America, Fuck Yeah!" ... um I'd say "fuck No!" to Team America.

http://bostonphoenix.com/boston/movies/documents/04187430.asp

Parker & Stone on Moore:
------------------------

"As for Michael Moore, he’s a surprising target, though some might take delight in watching him blow up. (The puppeteers stuffed him with ham before setting him off.) Wasn’t Stone a friendly witness in Moore’s Bowling for Columbine? Don’t get them started.

"Basically he’s a shithead," says Stone. "He’s ripe for parody."

"He’s one of the few I’m actually personally pissed off at," says Parker.

"The interview I did with Michael Moore is vastly different from how the movie ended up," says Stone. "I said, like, ‘I don’t think guns are the problem at all.’ He was, like, ‘I don’t either.’ He’s an opportunist. He doesn’t believe half the things he says."

What really makes the two mad is the sneaky sleight of Moore hand that makes it seem they were responsible for a left-wing animated history of the US done in the South Park style.

"Somebody read Howard Zinn and they made a little fucking cartoon out of it," says Stone. "It’s so transparent. Moore never says in the movie that the animation is by Trey Parker and Matt Stone. But he uses montage to put images and sounds together to create meaning that doesn’t exist. Ninety-nine percent of the people who saw that movie think that Trey and I did that animation. We’d never do anything so fucking retarded as that. So that’s a perfect example of how Michael Moore distorts truth."

1. The several times I've seen Parker and Stone convinced me
that they are both Freepers all the way. They fool a lot of people into thinking they are edgy and hip. They are just right wing clowns. No way would I pay to see "Team America".

Doesn't give a crap if a woman aborts a fetus

Doesn't care if two gays want to adopt

Doesn't think we should have prayer in public school because what is the government doing paying for schools?

Doesn't think we should have laws against prostitution, drugs or pornography. Your body, your choice.

4. Did he actually watch Bowling for Columbine?
Edited on Sun Oct-24-04 09:02 PM by Downtown Hound
The whole movie was about how Moore was wondering what was different about Americans that made them so violent, and he concludes that it isn't that they have more guns, but that they live in fear. Fear pumped into them by the media and politicians that is used to support a capitalist system and military industrial complex.

As for the cartoon being mistaken for their work, oh god get over yourselves. I admit, I wondered if it might have been those two, but after hearing them speak, it's quite obvious that neither of them are smart enough to do something like that.

I'm done with Trey Parker and Matt Stone. They can kiss my ass.

Neither freeper or hardcore liberal, but vapid.

He says the "Message" of Team America is, if you care about things, then your an idiot.

Basically a couple of teenagers who got rich by not growing up.

I've seen SP probably 4 times, and didn't get hooked. In the end, the satire has no meaning otheer than "everybody sucks. Don't think too deep on it."

14. Here's Ebert's review...
"Their "Team America: World Police" is an equal opportunity offender, and waves of unease will flow over first one segment of their audience, and then another. Like a cocky teenager who's had a couple of drinks before the party, they don't have a plan for who they want to offend, only an intention to be as offensive as possible.

-snip-

Regrouping, the team's leader, Spottswoode (voice by Daran Norris) recruits a Broadway actor named Gary to go undercover for them. When first seen, Gary (voice by Parker) is starring in the musical "Lease," and singing "Everyone has AIDS." Ho, ho. Spottswoode tells Gary: "You're an actor with a double major in theater and world languages! Hell, you're the perfect weapon!" There's a big laugh when Gary is told that, if captured, he may want to kill himself and is supplied with a suicide device I will not reveal.

-snip-

If I were asked to extract a political position from the movie, I'd be baffled. It is neither for nor against the war on terrorism, just dedicated to ridiculing those who wage it and those who oppose it. The White House gets a free pass, since the movie seems to think Team America makes its own policies without political direction.

I wasn't offended by the movie's content so much as by its nihilism. At a time when the world is in crisis and the country faces an important election, the response of Parker, Stone and company is to sneer at both sides -- indeed, at anyone who takes the current world situation seriously. They may be right that some of us are puppets, but they're wrong that all of us are fools, and dead wrong that it doesn't matter.

i dont mind their viewpoints most of the time, as long as its not political; they're hilarious to me, otherwise. but i agree with the poster above who said they think you're stupid to care. its basic teenage nihilist stuff, and they really are two particularly immature 15 year olds. its funny in its certain venue, like cartoons, but as soon as they step outside, its pathetically stupid

19. They are apolitical cartoonists
Anyone who expects them to push his/her personal political agenda really need to realize that cartoonists like Stone and Parker are not the best means to that goal. I thought Team America lampooned the GOP agenda quite well - blowing up the world in order to save it.

My opinion. I think Stone and Parker are quite funny, but I require anyone to do spend money on their merchandise.

24. Sean Penn's memo to Parker & Stone
SEAN PENN RIPS 'TEAM AMERICA' CREATORS IN ANGRY MEMO

**Exclusive**

October 6, 2004

To Trey Parker and Matt Stone,

I remember a cordial hello when you guys were beginning to be famous guys around Hollywood at some party. I remember several times getting a few giggles out of your humor. I remember not being bothered as you traded on my name among others to appear witty, above it all, and likeable to your crowd. I never mind being of service, in satire and silliness.

I do mind when anybody who doesn't have a child, doesn't have a child at war, or isn't or won't be in harm's way themselves, is encouraging that there's "no shame in not voting" "if you don't know what you're talking about" (Mr. Stone) without mentioning the shame of not knowing what your talking about, and encouraging people to know. You guys are talented young guys but alas, primarily young guys. It's all well to joke about me or whomever you choose. Not so well, to encourage irresponsibility that will ultimately lead to the disembowelment, mutilation, exploitation, and death of innocent people throughout the world. The vote matters to them. No one's ignorance, indcluding a couple of hip cross-dressers, is an excuse.

All best, and a sincere f**k you,

Sean Penn

P.S. Take this as a personal invitation from me to you (you can ask Dennis Miller along for the ride as well) to escort you on a trip, which I took last Christmas. We'll fly to Amman, Jordan and I'll ride with you in a (?) 12 hours through the Sunni Triangle into Fallujah and Baghdad and I'll show you around. When we return, make all the fun you want.

he'd be making Hollywood blockbusters and making even more money without any of the hassle. But he doesn't take the easy way out — because he has ideals. Something it seems like these two jerkoffs can't understand.

39. RW Bias is Obvious...
I haven't seen the movie, and have no plans to. I've never been a South Park fan (has some funny moments but I think it's always been over-hyped crap, and I'm a huge animation fan). But I never realized that Parker & Stone are such a**holes, or that they were so RW. With all the obvious targets for ridicule on the Right - *, Cheney, A**croft, pill-popping Pigboy, Mann Coulter and on and on, they choose only to attack Moore and Hollywood lefties? They can call themselves libertarians, but their RW bias couldn't be any more obvious. I agree that they are nihilists. But to me, influencing young people to be nihilists who are acceptant or supportive of extreme RW ideals and open hatred for left-leaning liberal activists is a very heinous and dangerous thing. And from what I see, there is a large group of teens and 20-somethings who buy into this mentality. Hopefully the movie is still bombing and these jackasses will finally fade into long-overdue obscurity.

40. Guys, I'm a nihilist and a libertarian (small L)
and I'm voting for John Kerry. :)

The reasons are numerous as to why I retired my previous philosophy of state socialism for libertarianism, but the two most important reasons are because the Bush Administration has introduced me to Big Totalitarian Brother, and I don't like it, and second, as a state socialist, I believed that we were working to save a poor, exploited underclass from the evil rich -- in reality, I believe we're trying to save a fat, apathetic, retarded middle class from itself.

Libertarians can trend left, you know. Give some of us a break.

That said, South Park is about as low-brow as it gets, and is funny exactly 15 percent of the time.

And actually, I'm not really a nihilist, because I believe in stuff -- call me a postmodernist, maybe -- I don't believe in absolutes. Absolutely.
