CNN confirms: Clinton to campaign in New Mexico, Nevada and Arkansas
Edited on Mon Oct-25-04 03:05 PM by dolstein
Well, I suppose that if you're going to send Clinton all the way out to New Mexico, then you may as well have in campaign in Nevada as well. But still, it strikes me as a little odd that they'd sent him out to the Southwest instead of having him visit Detroit, Milwaukee and Cleveland. Perhaps we should take this as a sign that the Kerry campaign is increasingly confident about their position in Michigan, Wisconsin and Ohio. Then again, maybe we shouldn't read anything into it.

The decision to send Clinton into Arkansas sounds like good news to me. I think having Clinton in their is probably worth a lot more than any advertising money at this point. He's likely to monopolize local TV and newspaper coverage while he's there.

2. The Arkansas visit makes a lot of sense
when you realize the most recent poll there has Kerry and Bush tied at 48 percent. Nevada also is winnable, and New Mexico is a blue state Gore narrowly won in 2000, so that's understandable.

6. If Gore had used Clinton in Arkansas last time, Dumbo'd be working at
an I-Hop.

This means Kerry will take Arkansas, and New Mexico, and a decent shot at Nevada. Even though the race is close, I can't see Bush taking any state other than the ones he took in 2000 (not legally, though). Give Kerry Arkansas, and you don't need Florida or Ohio.

7. michigan
I think the union vote in michigan will probably ride Kerry - infact i would be suprised if Michigan went Bush - if it does, then slap me and call me silly because its a high union area and lots of progressive hospitals and institutions there.

8. we are going to win
Arkansas. Clinton driving home the vote in the last weekend there will make a huge difference. General Clark is already doing some great work there.

11. Those are Clinton States
He won all of those in 1992, and he may do us a lot of good there this time.

Gore should be ashamed for passing up this opportunity.

12. We really need a Clinton boost here in southern Nevada
Clark County must go huge for Kerry to hold off the red tendencies of the rest of the state. But Las Vegas/Clark County is gripped by an irrationally high degree of terrorism fear. I've sense that since 9/11 when talking to casino employees, or residents in general, every day. The big hotels are frequently mentioned as potential targets. Muhammad Atta and other 9/11 conspiracists met here, well publicized.

I've seen many internet pundits who expected Nevada to easily turn blue this cycle, based on Yucca Mountain, and are surprised at poll numbers favoring Bush. The fear of terrorism is what they are missing. Maybe Clinton can shake things up with a megadose of hope trumping fear.

13. Good. Bring him south.
I have to admit, though, I wish IA and WI would pull away for Kerry. They've got me a little worried.
