How's this idea for a Kerry ad? |
|
Probably too late in the game to pull this off, but I'd love to see it done:
Gather together all of the people who have been turned away from or thrown out of Bush rallies for the slightest hints of dissent, even such things as quietly wearing t-shirts reading "Support Civil Liberties", and have each speak just a few short words about being arrested, tickets torn up, etc, ending with a voice-over saying: "George Bush talks about spreading freedom and democracy around the world. John Kerry supports freedom and democracy at home."
(Last week's New Republic magazine, p. 6 if I remember correctly, gives a great account of the Brown Shirt way Bush has been conducting all of his political rallies.)

But you're right, probably a bit too late in the day to arrange.
And Bush would probably find people who claim to have been attacked by Democrats to spew their croccodile tears in a counter-ad of his own. And the press would say, "Some say Bush is keeping them out of his rallies, others say Kerry is suppressing dissenting voices. There's no way to be sure which side is worse - without getting off our fat, lazy, corporatize, not-so-secretly pro-Bush asses - so we're going to pretend they're both equally at fault. Someone get me another martini."
