UFANYC Head caught putting Partisan Politics above Union Needs |
|
http://www.georgewbush.org/deadletteroffice/A whole string of messages that include the head of UFANYC and Matt Keelen, head of a Washington PR firm hired by the RNC to promote the Union endorsement of Bush by the NYC Firefighters. Very revealing (possible illegal) stuff. Steve Cassidy (the corrupt head of UFANYC) eerily talks about needing to know what "Rove is thinking" ...then says he wants to go for the 'jugular' right away. Includes messages from David Castillo (Bush campaign's veterans director). -----Original Message----- From: mkeelen@keelencomm.com Sent: Wednesday, September 08, 2004 9:52 PM To: dcastil@georgewbush.com; dcastil@georgewbush.org Subject:

Matt, I spoke with a union official from Hillsborough County, Local 2294. He said they have not made an endorsement and probably will not be making one. It was his feeling that most locals in Florida would not come out and endorse either candidate. The majority of his members do support President Bush. He indicated that if there was an event that was taking place in the Tampa area, there would be no problem turning out a lot of firefighter support for President Bush. They are very interested in an event such as this. I get the feeling there is a reluctance to go against the IAFF down there. In 2000, Florida was the only state organization to go against the IAFF endorsement of Gore and Shaitberger came down hard on them. I am still waiting to hear from Miami. Jim

Everyone needs to chill for a moment. Steve - you and I need to talk tomorrow and walk through this. I will be discussing with Ken and Chris and JAf tomorrow morning. I will call you late morning after I run through some scenarios with those guys.

My thoughts are we need to put together a plan of attack for several areas of the campaign, including ground game(bus tours and appreances in targeted states) talking head appearances by steve, and targeted calls by steve to other potential firefighter union endorsements like pittsburgh, philly, dayton, cinny, etc. Plus opeds from steve to papers in targeted states on why the nyc firefighters endorsed potus. We need to get on this, time is ticking. -----Original Message----- From: "Cassidy,Steve" Date: Sun, 5 Sep 2004 18:30:47 To: Cc:"Slevin,James" , "Spollen,Jim" , Subject: What next?
Call me and let me know what your thoughts are. I have some good ideas but I really need to know what Rove is thinking. Call me and let me know what you think. Let's not get over confident. Let's go for the jugular right away. I followed the talking heads the last few days and not one Dem or lib media person brought up Firefighters for Kerry or even homeland security. I hope they were happy with Wed nite and the Endorsement. It is having a hugh impact with IAFF. I'm getting a lot of hate mail which is lways a good sign you're getting to them. My members are thrilled but the rest of the national labor movement is furious with me although none of them have had the guts to call me directly. They have been complaining through 2nd parties. SJC
