Funny email from coworker
A guy in the office sent this to a few of the people in our office. He didn't include me on the list.

For one moment, lets forget what President Bush has to say about the issues. Lets forget too what Senator Kerry has to say about the issues. The question is what would Jesus do ? Thats right.. WWJD. This theological phrase was popular several years back but for some reason we have forgotten it. You can't go wrong if you select what Jesus would do. Make the correct choice. Do what is right..... WWJD.

Pass this on to as many people as you can think of. The election is around the corner.

This is one of the single issue voters (anti-choice) and he tried to send me shit in 2000. I told him not to send me that email bullshit anymore and he wrote back and said "I thought you were a concerned citizen". Of course I told him I was, but the email spam is crap and I don't want it. He never sends me things anymore, which makes this part "
Pass this on to as many people as you can think of." kind of funny. I guess he didn't "think" of me.

I thought this was interesting also...
"This theological phrase was popular several years back but for some reason we have forgotten it."

Hmm? Yeah, it was popular until some shit-for-brains came along. I am not a Christian, but respect their right to believe in what they want. I am a spiritual person and I saw great things in the 90s. The last three years has been one of the most depressing and anti-wwjd times in my memory.

I just thought I would share this with you all because I can't write back to him with my thoughts. For some reason, I think he doesn't want to hear them anyway.

1. notify his boss for his abuse of the mail system and harassment.
serves him right if he gets fired.

remember, people are protected from unwanted preaching in the office.

3. Well as I said
He didn't send it to me. If he did, I wouldn't turn him in, I would just bombard him with the truth and he would get pissed and I would just laugh.

5. I did send him that one once
He said he doesn't put faith in what one man says. I wrote back some information to him and he stopped writing. These are the kind of people that shout out the God thing, but they have no true understanding of their Country and how the system works.

12. Here's his answer:
The following principles for deciding on candidates for whom to vote were adopted by the National Council of Churches, a respected community of Lutheran, Presbyterian, Episcopal, Methodist, Baptist, and other Protestant, Orthodox, and Anglican churches:

Christian Principles in an Election Year

Our Christian faith compels us to address the world through the lens of our relationship to God and to one another. Public discourse is enhanced as we engage civic leaders on the values and ethics affirmed by our faith. At the same time, religious liberty and the integrity of our democracy will be protected as candidates refrain from using faith-based organizations and institutions for partisan gain. We offer these ten principles to those seeking to accept the responsibility that comes with holding public office.

1. War is contrary to the will of God. While the use of violent force may, at times, be a necessity of last resort, Christ pronounces his blessing on the peacemakers. We look for political leaders who will make peace with justice a top priority and who will actively seek nonviolent solutions to conflict.

2. God calls us to live in communities shaped by peace and cooperation. We reject policies that abandon large segments of our inner city and rural populations to hopelessness. We look for political leaders who will re-build our communities and bring an end to the cycles of violence and killing.

3. God created us for each other, and thus our security depends on the well-being of our global neighbors. We look for political leaders for whom a foreign policy based on cooperation and global justice is an urgent concern.

4. God calls us to be advocates for those who are most vulnerable in our society. We look for political leaders who yearn for economic justice and who will seek to reduce the growing disparity between rich and poor.

5. Each human being is created in the image of God and is of infinite worth. We look for political leaders who actively promote racial justice and equal opportunity for everyone.

6. The earth belongs to God and is intrinsically good. We look for leaders who recognize the earth's goodness, champion environmental justice and uphold our responsibility to be stewards of His creation.

7. Christians have a biblical mandate to welcome strangers. We look for political leaders who will pursue fair immigration policies and speak out against xenophobia.

8. Those who follow Christ are called to heal the sick. We look for political leaders who will support adequate, affordable and accessible health care for all.

9. Because of the transforming power of God's grace, all humans are called to be in right relationship with each other. We look for political leaders who seek a restorative, not retributive, approach to the criminal justice system and the individuals within it.

10. Providing enriched learning environments for all of God's children is a moral imperative. We look for political leaders who will advocate for equal educational opportunity and abundant funding for children's services.

Finally, our religious tradition admonishes us not to bear false witness against our neighbor and to love our enemies. We ask that the campaigns of political candidates and the coverage of the media in this election season be conducted according to principles of fairness, honesty and integrity.

...you're gonna have to read "What's the Matter with Kansas" by Thomas Frank and "Don't Think of an Elephant" by George Lakoff. Both very eye-opening...

11. Excellent response
Trouble is, most of Chimp's supporters can't focus long enough to read something over one paragraph, or reflect any deeper than to imagine what their personal Jesus would do.

7. My kid wore a WWJB button to his Christian school.
"Who Would Jesus Bomb?" One teacher took offense, thinking that he was projecting violence onto Jesus. My kid had to explain that it was a pacifist statement - not exactly a common sentiment around there, but it put the teacher in her place.

8. Okay, who WOULD Jesus vote for?
Edited on Tue Oct-26-04 09:46 AM by gratuitous
Remember, Jesus was in favor of the losers of society. What has George W. Bush done for the less fortunate? Not rhetoric, results. Jesus also said that you should ignore the high-minded things prominent people say and instead look at what they actually do; that is, by their fruits shall you know them.

Further, Jesus was intensely interested in the total good and advancement of the entire community. The shepherd who leaves the flock of 99 to find the one lost sheep; the woman who sweeps her house looking for her lost coin; the report of rejoicing in Heaven by the angels over one repentant sinner than in the good deeds of a hundred good men. All these point to a man who wanted society to work for everyone, not just the good and acceptable. What specific policies and programs has George W. Bush instituted and funded that lead you to believe that he shares this concern?

During the Bush administration, jobs have been lost, the crime rate is up, and more abortions are being performed. Millions more of our fellow citizens have drifted below the poverty line, and our shared resources, the U.S. Treasury, have been squandered on an elective invasion of a country and the oppression of a population that was no threat to us. There is no reserve to help the least fortunate of our own country or any other country. Instead, the Bush administration has been on a relentless campaign to funnel money from the needy and deserving to the greedy and undeserving.

What would Jesus say about that?
