Interesting Rob Simmons commercial distancing himself.....
Edited on Wed Oct-27-04 01:59 PM by Oz
from the shrub.
Simmons, a repug congressman, from ct has seen the race closing between him and the Democrat Sullivan. Sullivan has been running a commercial kind of morphing Simmons into bush so.............

I noticed two things:

His latest commercial has his daughter talking about how he can save the Groton Sub Base (I will get to that in a minute) and then closes by saying that the opponent has been comparing her father to bush and that her father is different because he has bigger ears and listens better. It's a direct slap at the shrub and definitely trying to distance her father from the fraud.

About the sub base.
All of a sudden I started seeing stories on the local news stations talking about the possibility of the sub base closing. I was wondering where the hell that came from all of the sudden. There is nothing pressing right now regarding the closure. It's old news from a list of potential base closings. Now I get it. This latest commercial from Simmons opens with his daughter saying how her dad is the best choice if we want to keep the base in CT. You see, first they get the media to create a fake problem to set him up as the champion of the worker and best suited to keep their jobs in CT. Fear, Fear, Fear - It's all they have.

I do have to hand it to them co-ordinating the stations with their ad campaign.

3. That's a typical Republican tactic...
"I stood up and fought against base closure!" Every Republican candidiate in every place I've lived (with a military base) uses that line.

4. What I found interesting was the coordination with...............
the local media. Plant the story, the media goes out and gets pictures, talks to people, runs the story on every newcast, the whole nine yards and the next day, lo and behold, his campaign commercial pops up.
Amazing.
