Long-time Kerry supporter and blogger Mark from Iowa reports on a Kerry rally at the University of Iowa with Ashton Kutcher, Ron Livingston, and Max Weinberg, plus Andre and Chris Heinz.
Ashton Kutcher (That 70's Show; Punk'd) and fellow Iowa native Ron Livingston (Band of Brothers; Sex and the City) joined Max Weinberg (Conan O'Brien) and John Kerry's stepsons, Andre and Chris Heinz, on the University of Iowa campus Tuesday night. Rallying support on a drizzly night in the Democratic heart of Iowa, Kerry's surrogates spoke to an outdoor crowd of 1,500 making their pitches between sets from local band Atomic Bride.
Kutcher: "I voted for Bush in 2000. Boy, did I get punked."
Speaking first was Chris Heinz, who has been out on the stump for JK for more than a year. Chris introduced the student-dominated crowd to John Kerry the man and John Kerry the stepfather by talking about the unexpected death of his own father in 1991, and about how John Kerry had embraced Chris and Andre when he married Teresa. It was a story I'd heard once before, and it brought back a lot of memories.
Next up was Ron Livingston, who talked about the energy he was seeing on the college campuses they had been touring. He also talked about how important it was for the Democrats to win and win big in Johnson County (home of the U. of I.), and how by helping to do so students could put their stamp on this election, and change the course of the nation.
After Ron came Max Weinberg, who talked about the importance of the election not only now but for future generations. Looking ahead to January 20th, Max said he wanted to be able to turn on FOX News and watch President Bush leave the White House for the last time, because not even FOX would be able to spin that.

Turning to Kerry, Kutcher said, "I want you all to vote for a guy who's gonna lower most of your taxes, and raise mine significantly." Then he told the story of how he voted for Bush in 2000, because he thought he and Bush shared a common background and world view. "Boy, did I get punked," Kutcher said. "It turns out there are a lot of differences between me and George Bush, but the biggest one is that I know how to admit when I'm wrong. And boy was I wrong when I voted for Bush."
