If you haven't volunteered, you are missing a great experience.
I have the privilege of living in one of the most important counties in a major swing state (PA). I scheduled my vacation so that I could spend the week before the election volunteering. I am so happy that I did; this will be an experience that I will remember for the rest of my life.

People have come to my home county from all over the country. I have met people from California, Virginia, Vermont, Washington, D.C., Massachusetts, and Kazakhstan (really!). I am working on a project with a team that includes a journalist, a neurosurgeon, a retired nuclear technician, and the father of an Oscar-winning screenwriter.

I'm going to repeat that because I love saying it: I am working on a project with a team that includes a journalist, a neurosurgeon, a retired nuclear technician, and the father of an Oscar-winning screenwriter.

EVERYONE has been unfailingly wonderful. This is a high-pressure situation filled with last-minute changes, but everyone has remained calm, friendly, and supportive. All age groups are represented, as well: today, Finnfan Jr. (9) helped pack 100 lunches for canvassers who had traveled from New York to help us out here.

If you haven't given a little bit of your time, do not miss this chance. And if you can travel to a swing state, please do. We need you, and you will have an experience that you will never forget.

2. I had this experience decades ago. And it is wonderful.
I can't do the walking anymore. Or the talking. (I'm assigned to exit polling which is less of both.) But it's everything you say.

And possibly more important than anything you will ever have to do again. I hope.

4. Wanted to volunteer...
I have been watching for a need for volunteers on election day, but so far the only places are almost an hour away from me and I can't do that. Maybe we don't need them here in East Stroudsburg...I don't know.

6. I agree
I've been doing different volunteer work (it's run the gamut) since over a year ago when we first flew to Iowa to canvass for Dean during the primaries, and this year has been an experience I'll never forget.

My daughter, at the table this morning said, what if bush wins? Then all that hard work will have been for nothing and I said no, I will NEVER regret what I have done to promote democracy in this country and to help further the efforts of a party that HELPS us instead of hurting us.
