Just got an email from repub business associate encouraging Kerry support
I am amazed at the number of emails and comments I have been receiving from people about Kerry. In typical elections, it is sort of taboo to cross the line with people's politics (especially in business relationships). But a lot of people seem to be doing this to try to impact everyone they possibly can. I sent out a similar email a while back to nearly everyone in my address book -- I do think it helped firm up a few people. Here's a clip from his email... might be good for some of your family/friends who are fiscally conservative repubs. I am sending it to my dad!
_____________
The importance of the election this time is enormous.

I think we must make a non-ideological choice.

I look at this as a business person and as a very concerned American. Unfortunately the current incumbent has failed on almost every count. If it were a company and we had created this near bankrupt fiscal mess, we would fire the CEO. The lives of our children, grandchildren and their children are too important for us to leave them with this mess.

We can have a great future in this country, but to do so we must live responsibly, contribute as citizens (as opposed to expecting tax cut bribery), and invest in education and technology to maintain our standard of living. We also must avoid trying to become an empire-- it has never worked and led to bankruptcy of the countries that tried it. We are no different.

Unfortunately, the national Republican party has been taken over by the right-wing religious zealots. In California that has led to the party not being competitive at the state level anymore. It was fortunate the Schwartzenegger could compete in a non-party election-- that is the only way he could win as he would have failed in a Republican primary. For a large number of my friends and myself, we are no longer welcome in the Republican Party. The party of Eisenhower, Teddy Roosevelt, Lincoln, and Rockefeller does not exist anymore -- and we are driven to become active for Kerry in this election.. Ronald Reagan said that he was a Democrat, but the party moved away from him-- and it did, it was taken over by more radical elements. Unfortunately, the reverse has now happened for Republicans.

And I implore you to go vote for Kerry on Tuesday. He isn't perfect, but he isn't incompetent. The economy led by Robert Rubin which worked so well in much of the 90's can return.

It seems to be a good thing for the country when there is a President of one party and at least one house of Congress the other. If Kerry wins, that is certain to happen. Under those conditions more honest dialog is forced to occur.

1. This sound like Montana
In Flathead County, a western county, local businessmen decided to support the Democratic challenger. More about it in this thread:

I applaud people for taking a stand
especially when it involves business, it can be risky and unpopular, so its doubly a great action.
