I want Pickles Bush to stop calling my house! But, something else.. |
|
About a week ago we got a couple of "We hope our friends in west Texas support the president in this difficult time for our nation"..blah blah blah" from the Chimp and his bride.
Over the last three days it is incessant--and more than a little pathetic: Pickles is there on the other end of the phone (recording of course) *urging* people like us to get to the polls. And, Giuliani has made a couple of calls as well but mainly it is Pickles Bush. Frankly, this has the wiff of the desperate as it is definitely a GOTV effort. And, I've gotten four calls today. Four.
The assumption that we should be prodded out to the polls is interesting: we live in a section of Lubbock that is *definitely* religious-middle class-Republican. I didn't even find a Democratic donation on "Newsmeat" in my zip code other than my husband and I.
They are shaking the trees even in Lubbock for votes. They are definitely afraid of losing the national popular vote again and are flogging the faithful to the polls. They have NO problem locally, so there is no reason for this other than total numbers national.
Still, I wish that mealy-mouthed witch would stop calling.

5. Easy to get numbers in Texas |
|
we don't declare party affiliation on registration. They tend to call by zip code or just by region of the state---for instance: I doubt that many on the "east side" (Black, Hispanic Lubbock) are getting these calls and probably not a lot in Tech Terrace (near the U where many faculty live). But, in my corner of hell---near new subdivisions with more "W" stickers than anywhere on earth I would bet---there is an assumption that you are for "W"
Most cars in our large lot have some sort of Wo4 piece of crap on them. Its a fairly upscale complex in a residential area.
Even my friend across town who has an unlisted/unpublished phone gets them.

since I was old enough to vote, but I've been getting more mail from the repubs this time around then from the Dems. I think they really are desperate.

2. why hasn't Pickles called me? |
|
I've gotten calls from Barbara Sr., Zell Miller, Ben Stein (!), and a ton of anonymous Republicans, 3 of them yesterday, plus 3 nasty lit pieces in the mail, plus a dirty robocall from my local candidate's opponent.
I don't know why they're targeting me, but I'm glad they're wasting their money.

3. If we all left the phone off the hook a few minutes after these calls |
|
would that cost them any extra money ? Or keep them from calling someone else on that line ?

8. We've done all of that---now we get tail ends of messages |
|
on the voice mail. I haven't answered the phone in three days and I have 24 "no available number" messages on the caller i.d. and a few partial messages from Pickles and Giuliani oh, and yeah, Barbara Bush (forgot her in the first).
My point is that they are *flogging* their base out to the polls.

been hearing a lot from DeLay and Laura. Now when the phone indicates Repug party, we don't bother picking up.

10. Life in a swing state has advantages and disadvantages - |
|
Advantages: We get to see the candidates a lot. I shook hands with John Kerry twice this year and also with John Edwards, Vanessa, and Teresa. Our vote seems to count more than those in solid states.
Disadvantages: Constant phone calls; literally stacks of junk mail, mostly from Repugs, road closures around our little municipal airport that cause long delays in getting home or elsewhere and the need or urge to work one's ass off on the campaign (if you care)
All in all, it would be easier to just move to Massachusetts.

If the message is really saying "this difficult time in our Nation", I find that very telling! Isn't Dubya drumming away on how wonderful things are? Is this is own "domestic dispute"? LOL!
