GOP literature drop at Catholic church |
|
This morning at one of the Masses the state GOP swooped down and littered every car in the lot with Bush vs. Kerry literature -- "Who better represents YOUR values?"
When the priest found out about it, he was livid, and went out and started taking the things off the cars himself. My husband said the priest was so angry he could barely get a word out. In his homilies he has made it clear that one-issue voting is not the way to go.
I plan on sending him a note congratulating him on his common sense and courage to buck the Catholic "trend" as it concerns the vote.

I'm a Catholic.
I think Kerry represents my values infinitely better than Bush* does.

4. That's another wise priest I've heard about recently! |
|
I was astounded by the wisdom of a priest I heard on tv recently about the pro-life issue. He said he had been counseling a lot of Catholics who were torn between voting for Kerry & for the coWard on the pro-life issue. He advised them that there are facets of pro-life other than abortion (death penalty, preemptive war, gun control, etc.), & that there are other Kerry positives that would improve our quality of life.
Your priest is to be commended!

5. Wow -- you've got a good spiritual leader. |
|
Be thankful for that. I'm sure it's the fairness issue that bothers him -- in a way, it must have felt for him like the carrion crows had swooped down on his church.
It's good to hear some people with a responsibility for spiritual leadership care about this. My faith in hell went with my faith in the ability of some religious leaders (not all, mind you, but the ones I was dealing with at the time) to 'render unto Caesar.'
Some evangelicals (of which I was one) seem to have got a bug up their ass about letting people make their own decisions. My personal thought about this is that the ministers I dealt with wanted all the temptations removed from the world because they didn't want to have to turn temptation down, themselves. A world without temptations is easy for those who are susecptible to falling off the path, after all.
Personal observation only -- coming from someone whose minister (a guy with a schoolteacher wife and two kids) used to drive a purple Trans Am and get a speeding ticket two or three times a year, but stand at the pulpit and tell the rest of us to resist the temptation to do the wrong thing.

7. I really admire the Catholic priests who keep trying |
|
to fight the good fight. I can't even imagine how difficult it must be for a socially conscious priest in this culture to go on day in and day out.

We live in the same block as a Catholic Church. We have a jerk (Regola) who was a Democrat 10 months ago and sold out to the repugs and is running for State Senate against Kuckovich. He has had the dirtiest campaign ever and has spent 1 million of repug money to do it. Last night at mass and this morning, his people put flyers on all the cars saying Kukovich stands for abortion, don't vote for him. Meantime, the state has nothing to do with abortion issues. Many of the flyers were torn up and thrown on the sidewalk. Also, this morning a moron in a Kerry mask stood outside the church holding a sign saying that Kerry believes in partial-birth abortions. I hate the repugs, they have the most convoluted thinking on earth.

I can't wait until the election season is over. Everybody is at each other's throats, and they suck.
