Hey! You! Curt Schilling! FLIP-FLOPPER!!!!!!!
Edited on Sun Oct-31-04 04:42 PM by plastic_turkeys
ORLANDO, Fla. -- Curt Schilling is pitching for President Bush after all.

The Red Sox star, who at the last minute canceled plans to appear at two New Hampshire Bush rallies Friday, has recorded pro-Bush messages that will be automatically dialed in the Granite State, as well as in Maine and Pennsylvania.

''These past couple of weeks, Sox fans all throughout New England trusted me when it was my turn on the mound," Schilling says in the recording made Friday. ''Now you can trust me on this: President Bush is the right leader for our country."

Bush campaign aides, however, remained eager to use Schilling's star power to help the president's reelection bid -- and to deflect some attention from Senator John F. Kerry's support of the Sox.

Despite Schilling's stated reticence to issue public endorsements, the campaign arranged with him to record the messages, which will be delivered through Election Day.

1. So, Schilling implies that Shrub was rooting against Texas?
That should be interesting to the Lone Star state...Shrub supports Taxachusetts!!

2. Who wants to bet that Schilling gets traded next year?
Getting up in age, bad ankle. He's more than likely had his last hurrah.

4. Better still, he can enlist
His contributions were enormous this year, no question, we finally won our Series. Thanks Curt. Now he and his burly brave self can go fight in Iraq.

7. He was the winningest, most consistent Sox pitcher this season.
And his salary is less than Pedro's was this year, so he is a real value for a pitcher. I don't see Epstein doing something stupid like trading away a rock solid pitcher. He is under contract for at least two more years now.

8. That injury he has is serious
Plus he keeps putting his foot in his mouth, bringing bad PR to the Sox. I don't think he'll be quite as good next year and if they can bring another pitcher in, they will.

9. He pitched injured most of the season and won 21 games.
So why would they trade a post season winning pitcher. The Yankees and Cardinals lost because they did not have shut down pitchers for the post season. Look what Schilling, Martinez, and Lowe did to the opposition.

3. It would have been better for Curt's Boston fan base
if he had simply said "I'm going to Dysneyland" and left it at that.

As a long time Red Sox fan (45+ yrs), my take on him is now summed up in two words:

"Trade Bait"
