Tweety is getting upset with Trippe
ROFLOL Trippe said if the young people vote it is OVER. He basically said Bush is finished if they vote. Tweety was like, "What do you mean it is over? Will these young people take off of class and stand in line for 2 hours to vote?" Tweety is such a stupid asshole. Nice Tweety gone and replaced by the real Tweety.

12. I agree with that!
As that idiot Tucker Carlson said (and he got this part right) "No one stands in line to vote for 3 hours unless they are PISSED."

And we ARE.

15. He needs Tucker to explain it to him again
People are PISSED and they want Bush out. They would rather stand in line 3 hours than to have that asshole in Washington for 4 more years!

I waited for 45 minutes and did it HAPPILY! Granted, the lines are twice as long or longer now, but Id still have a HUGE grin on my face, and will for the 16 hours Ill be putting in at the polls on election day with E.P.

3. Tweety is an ass.
Of course they'll cut class to vote, and they'll stand in line for as long as it takes. The college students are all over this election. I guess Tweety must have forgotten what college students were up to 35 years ago -- we did a lot more than just cut classes to get active politically, and these kids will, too.

4. Um, we will Tweety
and those that aren't got absentee ballots. Many people I know who didn't get their absentee ballot (we're really backed up in Ohio) are driving home to vote! For one girl I know, that's at least a 3 hour round-trip, plus whatever time it takes to actually vote. Some people on my campus are totally clueless, but most are at least somewhat involved this year.

Dumbass (Tweety)

19. I have two kids in college, and one who is working her first
job.

The level of political activity among these young people is amazing. They, and all their friends have either voted already, or are volunteering on election day.

It is not just them. They are reporting to me, and to my committee here, that their friends all over the country are involved.

It is the generation just older than them that was apathetic. They grew up during good times, for the most part. These kids are facing huge college debt, no job prospects, and a possible draft.

I have faith that they will turn out to vote, and GOTV.

McGovern when I was in college. When your ass (draft) is on the line, standing in one is worth all the time you put into it.

On Edit: Welcome to DU

30. I did street canvassing for McGovern in '72.
I was a grad student at the time and my butt wasn't on the line because I had already done my bit humping an M-16 and collecting bullet holes (3 of them) in 1967-68. As I recall those days, there was a little bit of student activism here and there.

17. I kind of agree.
I'm more confident in the inner city, never registered before, but identified and mobilized by ACT.

If the young ever voted, their issues would be addressed. If their issues were addressed, maybe they'd vote. Nasty cycle. Throw in the fact that they don't have money to contribute...

this was her message loud and clear. If you, the young, start to vote, candidates will be more likely to address their concerns.

18. Sorry to contradict, but the young people ARE showing up in droves
here in NC we had a week of "no excuses early voting" and I drove by one of the places several times per day (it's near my house).

There were MOSTLY 18 to 25 year olds in line. A long line was there from the time they opened until well after closing time.

The young people ARE voting this year. And heavily.

24. I hope your right and I'm wrong!
I worked at a get out the vote phone thing yesterday and it was amazing how many people said they weren't going to vote because no one represented their interest. Most said they were poor and no one ever spoke about anyone other than the elderly or middle class. I couldn't disagree with them but I pointed out that if they voted they would be heard and that the politicians all know who votes and who doesn't same could be said for the young.

33. That sure is odd! They never told me that...

I have been making calls to swing states, walking door to door and registered 1300 poor/middle class.upper class.

Only about 5 people told me that no one represented their interest.

After I gave them a few examples of what a racist piece of crap Bush really is, how he does nothing for the poor, they got it.

Huum, maybe you did not try hard enough?

35. Where?
Sorry, I don't buy it because we're down to calling motivated voters for final turnout. We long ago identified the stragglers. Nice try, but I don't buy a bit of what you're saying. Besides, my kids are saying the same thing the rest are saying. 18-20-24-28. College and working. The two in college says you can't walk anywhere without somebody asking if you voted. The ones who work say all their friends have voted and are more interested than they've ever seen before. This year's different and we're already seeing it the rise in voting. I suspect you're not long for this board.

41. I agree that is odd...I've been calling for four weeks and have not had
one response like that. I've called voters in several swing states from a CA phone bank and then checked the demographics of the areas when I got home. Many of the areas we were assigned were lower middle class, with very low percentages of college graduates and high unemployment--and most were very interested in this election. It's too bad no one gave you any talking points for addressing these concerns...we had sheets of paper with Kerry's stance on a number of issues affecting people in lower income brackets--most notably health care and health insurance, jobs and education.

23. Unfortunately, young people vote in low numbers election after
election.

Maybe they= young people aren't sure if they're supposed to vote in their college-towns or home-towns, and so do neither.

But every election, some people hope that young people will vote in large numbers, and they don't.

25. Until now.
I think you will see the young people turn out in this election like never before.

We are too mobilized, and there is much anecdotal evidence to suggest that young people are NOT staying home this year. They are young, not stupid, and they understand what's at stake this time.

26. UA students fought to have a polling site on campus and won.
With the early voting, students are bringing their books to study while waiting in line for hours to vote.

I think the young ones have awoken and they ain't to pleased with what has been going on. The local media interviewed campus students and those few that failed to register, when asked why, were embarrased and ashamed that they failed to do so.

I think Rove and company are going to be in total shock when they see the number of young and first time voters waiting in line to vote George out.

34. I was at college in the 70's when the draft was still around.
I think kids are going to be out in large numbers. I was calling voters in Ohio (I'm from Texas I had to do something that'd count) and I spoke to a woman who works at Kent State. The students there are very involved in this campaign. Spending 2 hours in line is nothing compared to being pulled away from college by a future draft.
