Tonight, I Shook the Hand of a Great Man, Dennis Kucinich |
|
I'm writing this from the California state Democratic convention in San Jose. Two candidates for the Presidency are appearing this weekend, Dennis Kucinich and Al Sharpton.
Dennis came to our Asian/Pacific Islander caucus and gave an inspiring speech about how our society is benefited by diversity, and how he would foster and support it. He talked about how the PATRIOT Act needed to be overturned. He talked about how immigration issues needed to be considered within a humane and equitable context.
He had all of us applauding his bold vision, and he did it while appearing as a humble and genuinely decent human being.
I have a proposition for all DUers. I've never once been called for a political poll. But my proposition is this. If anyone gets a political poll phone call, please say your first choice is Dennis Kucinich. It won't hurt your candidate at all, your one vote won't dilute anything, and besides, polls are pretty stupid anyway, in many ways. But imagine how much of an earthquake it would send through this establishment if Dennis Kucinich received, say, 10% of the vote.
There are a very few Democratic candidates I would be truly proud to vote for. Dennis Kucinich is one of them.

I'm not going to lie for him. He wouldn't want me to lie, if he's the kind of man I think he is.

3. I Liken It To a White Lie |
|
Just like you wouldn't say, "God, your baby is ugly," I think a white lie on a matter such as this could actually result in some good.
But YMMV.

4. I'm a Pragmatic Bastard |

But for some reason I'm not comfortable with this line of thought.
I would much rather have Kucinich and Clark come together, because they have so much more in common (Department of Peace, military budget cuts, working- and middle- class tax cuts, etc. etc.) than, say, either candidate and Dean, IMO.

and I know alot of Clarkies who like him too. I have given $$ to his campaign, even though I am CLARK all the way! I may even call iowa voters for DK this weekend, in between canvassing for Clark. I wish Dennis was doing better.

6. That's a memory to cherish, DTH |

Dennis Kucinich is a wonderful guy.
I like that poll prank idea - because that's the long and short of it: nothing serious, no harm done. Small chance we get a pollster's call, but I promise to prop Dennis if one does.
