1. interesting story about lawn signs... |
|
Edited on Tue Nov-02-04 08:40 AM by truthisfreedom
last week someone came up my street and cleared out all of the Kerry/Edwards signs on my block and the neighboring block, removing literally hundreds of signs. my street leads to a cul-de-sac that has a running/walking/biking bridge over railroad tracks, so there is a good deal of foot traffic, and it was sad that our 100% Kerry neighborhood suddenly was barren of signs. i called the local headquarters and they told me they were almost out of signs, with less than 25 left, and they'd given out over 55,000 but the sign theft was epidemic. they asked me to call the police, which i did, and they filled out a report but said they don't prosecute sign theft anyway. i figured it was over, but when i came home later that day, my whole block was full of signs again!
one of my neighbors, Sue Scott, who does all of the female voices for A Prairie Home Companion, went to a neighboring suburb and got a huge pile of signs from a different campaign office where they had spares, and she replaced every single one that was stolen all the way up to the pedestrian bridge! since then people have been kicking the signs down but we've been diligently putting them back up again and they are proudly standing there today... to witness Kerry's landslide win! woohoo! whoever stole all of our signs was completely punked. talk about demoralization... they were stolen overnight and back up by noon! 8^)

I was chatting with my friend the other night and she said her whole office is voting for Kerry. Let's hope it's a sign of things to come...

2. Happy Election Day to Everyone at DU! |
|
I'm off to work (just started a new and, so far, wonderful job, so I couldn't take the day off and volunteer, as I had hoped), then I'm enjoying an evening of pizza and movies (Shaun of the Dead and something else) with my wife before we take a late night look at the results. No sense in spending the night in front of the talking heads, in my opinion. Anxiety needs no help this time around.
Salud!

5. I went to vote before work as I |
|
always do. In 2000 I was in and out in 5 minutes. This morning I got to my polling place at about 6:50 and didn't leave until around 7:20. Also I had to park way in the back where I always can usually just pull up in front of the school. I live in a town of about 15,000. The Republican operatives outside the building looked a little somber. Two Democratic supporters outside were all smiles. On my way out one of them was saying to the other "huge turnout. This is beautiful." I agree. :D
