Why should we nominate Bob Dole?....(Kerry, Gephardt) |
|
Kerry and Gep are ok, but they fail to excite crowds and are not capable of drumming up grassroots support the way Dean and Clark are. They've also kissed up to * on the war, the Patriot Act, and No Child Left Behind. I'll campaign for either one of them if they're nominated, but if we nominate either one of them, call them Bob Dole, because we're essentially giving a sacrificial lamb to Rove.

1. The Bob Dole comparison.. |
|
is interesting. I have always felt a bit like that about them..that they don't have the power to energize supporters. Hopefully, if they were nominated they could prove me wrong. Gep was pretty fired up in that thing on C-Span last night..
I think that hopefully alot of people who've been involved in the other grassroots campaigns would join in to help Kerry or Gephardt. And that alot of people who really want Bush gone would get involved.
I'd like to think that either of them could pull it off, even though I think it'd be more difficult.

2. Dole was a good candidate for the GOP |
|
He had the misfortune of running against a very good and very popular incumbent president.
If Clinton had been as big a failure as Bush is now, Dole is one of the few republicans I would have considered crossing the line for.
I think the comparison to Gep is closer than Kerry, because of Gep's age and his experience in leadership, and maybe personality. Gep's not quite as tough as Dole, but he's dry in the same way.

3. Learning from the Dean campaign? |
|
Roll out the old NCLB, Patriot Act and war vote? Label them as Republicans?
Better think twice. If you really want to go there, I've got a shitpot full that'll make Wes Clark look like Atilla the Hun.

5. You missed the point of the thread. |
|
The point was that nominating either Gephardt or Kerry would be liking giving them a lifetime achievement award just like Dole got.

might as well call it like it is. This is a pretty flawed view. The Bob Doles of the world exist only in the GOP.

That's a pretty limited world view.

4. Comparison is not fair |
|
Edited on Sun Jan-18-04 01:36 PM by Meritaten1
I don't think it's fair to compare ANY Democratic candidate to Bob Dole.
Also, whoever the Democratic nominee is (I personally hope the nominee will be Wesley Clark), Democrats should not concede anything. The Party should run candidates in every state, even the red ones, at both the state and local levels.
