Newton, Ia. - Democratic presidential candidate John Kerry said Saturday that he will recommend that President Bush appoint a special prosecutor to investigate whether Attorney General John Ashcroft committed perjury by violating federal election law in 2000.

The Federal Elections Commission found that Ashcroft improperly accepted $110,000 in contributions to his U.S. Senate re-election campaign.

"I don't think we should have an attorney who sits in judgment over prosecutions and investigations over these matters who himself has a serious question over his own behavior," Kerry said in an interview with The Des Moines Register after a campaign event at a community college in Newton.

Ashcroft is accused of improperly accepting contributions for his Senate campaign that were intended for an effort he undertook to explore running for the 2000 Republican presidential nomination.

Will the Bush adminstration appoint a special prosecutor to investigate John Ashcroft? Whadya you think?

And what about that Justice Department investigation of the White House outing of Valerie Plame as a CIA operative? We hear nothing from the Justice Department, or the Bush White House, about the progress of this investigation. How hard can it really be to find the identity of the leaker?

2. Good going John Kerry
Asscroft is EVIL. Clark said yesterday in NH, he should investigated for abuses of the Patriot Act.

4. Kerry voted "NO" on Ashcan.
Still, the GOP majority, helped by some rather conservative DEMs, approved Crisco as Attorney General.

What a Kerry administration would be like:

"When I am president of the United States, there will be no John Ashcroft trampling on the Bill of Rights." — Sen. John Kerry, July, 2003

5. Good for him
Perhaps once he gets the probe out, he could use it on Bush* too.

Those repugs spent millions looking into less meaningful stuff than this. A thorough probing is well past due.
