TURN YOUR BACKS ON REPUBLICANS |
|
Edited on Thu Nov-04-04 12:23 AM by Moonbeam_Starlight
That's right, you heard me. Show them your backs, cross your arms. That's exactly what they have done to us and to the world.
They wanted this mess, they got it. Their little chimp boy is going to get to deal with what he started and worse.
True, we have to suffer right along with everyone else, but I say we take steps to protect ourselves (and no, I'm not talking about guns): over this next year, we should all work to make our financial situation better. We can HELP EACH OTHER. Find ways to help each other find jobs, find ways to help each other save money, encourage each other to keep every dollar we can out of georgie-porgie's economy. If a draft does occur, get your draft-age children somewhere safe, and I'm not kidding. I would do the same if my daughter were older.
Republicans have blood on their hands. The everyday ones didn't necessarily have blood on their hands before, because some who voted for him in 2000 were promptly appalled by him and changed their minds. Horrified by their 2000 vote. Others had no idea he would ever start a war of choice and that turned them off.
But the ones who voted for him in THIS election? Blood. All over their hands. And it doesn't wash off.
Democrats help each other. And no quarter for bush voters. NO quarter. Not even if they claim complete cluelessness, it's no excuse this time. Not after the last four years.
Anyone who thinks this is too harsh, fine. But keep in mind, these are people who agree with writing discrimination into the constitution. These are people who would gladly (and probably will)take away your daughter's reproductive rights and freedoms. These are people who care more about having a beer with the president than the fact that the debt he has run up will be on our grandchildren's addled backs for years to come.
No quarter.
On edit: I am also going to start inquiring about businesses I patronize. I am not going to give my business to companies owned and/or run by people who support bush. I'll go somewhere else. I live in a big metropolitan area, it's not a problem. I'm going to be going back to minimalism and frugality anyway. Walked into my dry cleaners today and they were practically in tears over the election and they told me how badly they wanted Kerry to win. They aren't even allowed to vote yet (Chinese) but they knew we needed a change. They will continue to have my business and I told them why.

but they aren't AS guilty to me. They are still worse than people who voted for Kerry.
Suddenly I have a three-tiered world. Oh did you get a flat tire? You voted for bush? Sorry, call AAA, I'm sure you can afford it being a republican and all.
And that goes against every grain of my nature, every fiber of my being. But the bush people have just ricocheted off my values map to a place I won't go.

don't let them walk on your back! No rest, no quarter, no sympathy.
When my bush loving neighbor gripes about how much it costs to fill up her SUV, I won't even listen, just turn and go back in my house.
When she's crying because she can't find a job (again), I'll turn my back.
When she's weeping and wailing and gnashing her teeth because her only son is being used as fodder in one of bush's PNAC wars of imperialism, think I'm going to feel sad? She rubber stamped it!
There won't be any footprints on my back, I can gaurantee you that!

of condemning torture and sawa that uniformly, each Republican person, even the heavily religious, were not only concerned about the deception and non-Christian value associated with this, but had no answer. I don't want to associate with people who condone torture. And yes, I voted on the basis of moral values.

12. Moonbeam_Starlight , great thread, great posts. I fully agree & have |
|
already started my own screening. As recent as this afternoon, I went into a couple of my small local stores and chatted with the owners, people who I've been casually acquainted with for some time. I didn't talk about the election until they brought up the subject themselves. When their body language told me they were sick over the election results, that's when we opened up. Those two stores will continue getting my patrionage.
BTW, if anyone has any hints on how to find out whether someone is a Bush supporter or not, without really coming right out and asking them, please add them here. No quarter for them is right.

no use in beating around the bush about it.
Ooooo bad pun sorry. NOT intentional.
It might come up without asking, such as when they bitch about the economy and you can kinda fish around a bit and usually you can find out that way.
Or "how you enjoying those gas prices?" If they are Kerry supporters they will usually lay right in bitching about it and that leads to bitching about bush. If they are bush supporters they will whimper about the gas prices then go all quiet.
Seriously.

Democratic voters in all the blue states should make an effort to replace republicans in congress and senate. No moderates need apply. Get rid of all of them. If moderate dems are losing in the red states then republicans should lose in the blue states. This goes for governors too. I don't care how moderate they are they still sleep with the devil.

PRESIDENT Bush now has a popular mandate to further cut taxes and push a conservative agenda. Is the Conservative agenda cutting taxes while at the same time fighting in a war on terror and supporting 'no child left behind'. How do you fund these things? My crazy theory is that you fund these things with taxes
-The Republican hold on Congress is as strong as it was following the Republican sweep in 1994, only this time we have the House, Senate AND the Presidency. With friends like Choicepoint and Diebold, Republicans can now rule like dictators.
-All 11 proposals banning gay marriage passes, helping protect the moral purity of our country. Tell me, are you more concerned with taking away the rights of gay people or getting rid of the mercury in the water that children drink?
-Tom Daschle and Martin Frost both went down in defeat. Tom DeLay is still in power, and he is corruption incarnate He should have been ousted a long time ago.
I have noticed that all you have said so far is talking about Conservatives are in power, blah, blah, blah.
So basically, you are admitting Conservatives dominate the government
Now tell me, is Democracy and Domination the same thing?

That is where I am now.
You Bush supporters - you that I call friends and relatives -
have insured that my daughters will have to go to Canada for an abortion if necessary (just wait, it will happen)
have insured that my very good friend - people that I love - who just happen to be gay will never be able to have the same rights as my wife and I do
have increased the likelihood of hate crimes against my gay friends
have cemented the belief in the world that Americans are dumb and dangerous thereby limiting my ability to travel and learn from our world neighbors
have increased the likelihood of terrorist attacks here in America
have insured that many, many more of our soldiers will be killed and injured in this stupidity called the Iraq war
have given the radical right the "mandate" to take over our schools, city halls, and courthouses
have given the radical religious right the "mandate" to put their warped image of a god into my children's schools
have increased the probability that my agnostic children will become second class citizens in this land of "freedom"
have increased the probability that my civil rights can be violated due to the GOP Patriot Act and future such acts that will continue to errode my civil rights
have insured that Social Security will die, thereby making it a strong probability that poor seniors will have miserable existences in the final days of their lives
have increased the probability that my job and jobs of other Americans will continue to bleed out of this country
have saddled the nation and our children's children with more debt than can ever be paid back
have given the richest 2% of Americans the promise of getting huge windfalls from the government at the expense of the middle and lower class
have given corporations free reign in our halls - the public halls - of congress
have insured the destruction of many many more innocent Iraqi children
have made me be ashamed of my fellow countrymen, to the point where I and many others would rather leave than watch the horror that will befall us in the next four years
have placed into ultimate power, an incurious man with limited world experience who cares nothing for the plight of the poor, but cares a great deal about keeping his "base", the haves, happy, warm and wealthy
I can never forgive them for their foolishness. I can never "come together" as a nation after this betrayal. I can never look at these Bush supporters with admiration or even friendship again.
They all have blood on their hands. God help us all.

Although I am surrounded by republicans in Florida and make my living off them. However, I will be sure to use whatever money I do make from them and donate some of it to a democratic cause.
Other than that, I do not have republicans friends. In fact, yesterday a repub co-worker asked my husband if I was upset about the election. He knew I was working for Kerry here. My husbands response: "well, anyone with a brain would be upset." Stopped the guy dead in his tracks and he actually ran away into his cubbyhole office.

35. I agree. Nor will I ever again give 1$ to charity |
|
I have always believed that a citizen of this country deserved to be able to eat and stay warm without "charity," and that by supporting such charity we are actually helping to perpetuate an unjust system. But in the past, out of compassion, I have donated to food banks, etc. No more. People don't like "big government" or "welfare?" Fine. They are unhappy that their mentally ill child cannot receive mental health services, that their elderly mother can't buy her medicine? Fine. Let them go to a church or a Republican for help.
Tough love indeed.

|
next 4 years, when I get a request for a donation, no matter where it's from, I'm going to return it and say "I will not subsidize a Bush presidency by donating to any worthy cause." I really hate to do that because I do donate, but now I am ready to do tough love, and have always thought the money donated goes to the administration costs of those charities anyway, so it won't be that hard to do. Ugly times we live in now.

I was inspired by one of the posters here who told of how her neighbor, whom the neighborhod had been supporting with potluck dinners etc, had defaced her Kerry sign, and treated it as a joke when he admitted to it. That's when I decided that that is the way to go. Bush voters can go live with the consequences they have brought upon themselves.
As I said earlier, invite their children in for dinner, they're innocent of their parents' choice, but let the Bushies starve.

42. YOU ARE ON THE "MONEY" |
|
I've been doing this personally since about 2 years ago....and have lobbied here at DU exactly as you say.
WE DO HAVE THIS POWER to influence the economy and the only thing that has saved W's economy is wreckless spending habits by Americans.
I have reoriented my buying habits to buy American for quite some time now. You can even do it at Walmart which is hard to believe. I make a point of confronting people on the China thing over and over again. Bush is playing into the rise of China to the greatest industrial nation on earth like nobody's business.
But you are specifically dead right about saving. I know at least a couple dozen people personally that have drawn heavily out of their home because of too easy to use home equity loans that can be filled out in 10 minutes and approved in a week or so for no fees. This has fed the economy on phoney money to a large extent.
And for this Christmas, I have very gracefully worked on my wife to the point that I think I have her convinced that a low budget X-mas is much more true to spirit and people joy than throwing store bought gifts at people.
We had the one X-mas where everyone in the family was limited to $5 per person per gift, and we chose from a grab bag who each of us would buy for....without a doubt the best X-mas we had ever.
Back to point....in Bushworld....you are simply a consumer....part of a consumer economy. All economic positive indicators revolve around your consumption. As we know...most of this consumption is now benefiting China.

48. This is partly similiar to certain Malcolm X views on black nationalism. |

In his autobiography, he talks about how the black community has to give support to and strengthen itself so that it doesn't have to beg for everything from white people, who in large numbers didn't want integration anyways. I would think it's good for us to really set up a community, go to meetups like the MoveOn.org or Democratic Party or Democracy for America meetups, and support each other and keep each other strong, as well as set up some needed things.

51. Yup. Along with the folks who didn't vote. |
|
Fuck em. If they want our help one day, they have to ask for it and put up with OUR terms. Enough pandering. We have been taken for granted for too long.

56. I am digging this thread! You've got my support, too |
|
I was joking about having a shirt made that says, "who did you vote for?" So whenever someone started to bitch about the state of things, I could just point to my shirt. If they look, sad and forlorn you know they are a Bushie, and they get my back. The back of my shirt will say, THINK ABOUT IT! A Dem will say I didn't vote for that asshole...then I will offer support. No need to turn my back on them, they've already spent many sleepless nights thinking about it..
