1. along the same lines... but different, sortof'ish...

...My family came from Germany. AAMOF, they LEFT (or tried to leave) prior to Hitler's last stand. WHY? Because they saw it coming. They saw the shit in the road and they avoided it. And I am one generation beneath their thinking that is DAMN GLAD they left.

So for all the people out there who are pissed off and ready to go to Canada, Australia, UK, Mexico ... wherever... I *COMPLETELY* UNDERSTAND! But I also Understand the need to stay and fight for our country, and our beliefs, and our RIGHTS THAT THEY ARE STRIPPING OUT FROM UNDER US. Would it have made a difference if folks had stayed in Germany... who knows... Hitler was a FREAK! But SO IS BUSH (AND THE Talibangelists)

Hell, I don't know what the right answer is. But, in the short history of under 100 years, I have a family who left their home country bcuz they saw the writing on the wall. Hitler was bad, and took his nation to destruction. Now, please, tell me .... how is this administration doing anything any differently? And prove to me that it couldn't happen here. Systematically our social systems are being removed, our country is (monetarily) owned by other countries (communist, even--and wasn�t that "bad" at one point in our short history?), and our infighting is becoming extreme. Who is the enemy, anyway??

Why shouldn't I leave?

Was this country not founded on the premise of separation of church and state? Leaving Mother England due to the church involvement with everyday life of the common man? Did we not make a constitution creating a system of checks and balances? Hell... Rove, Rummy, Dick & Dumbya have systematically removed all of those checks. Full power for the next two years to do whatever they want, without the media watching (cuz they stifled them, too), and beginning the creation of a governmental problem that will not (I fear) be fixed by any generation in my lifetime.

So who will fix it? Still unhappy with my comparison? If it's too close for comfort... read Handmaid's Tale, cuz we're not that far away.

Keep writing letters to the editor...

Call your local radio stations and organize boycotts against their advertisers for not allowing half of the country to have a voice...

...I can actually say that I've been making a list today of things I can do. For me. By me. In a way that works in my mind. I hope we can all find a way to do the same.

And hopefully it's not to leave the country, or become a handmaid.
