Progressive CHRISTIANS prepare for battle...
We must re-evangelize the evangelized.
This is not a job for political parties.

Confront them where they worship.

It's time to boycott and picket churches that breed intolerance.
Let's sing hymns- (stick to the good ones please.. nothing painful)
Give them information, show them we exist and we do not fear them.

We've let them hijack mainstream Christianity.. we must answer them before their infection spreads.

Those who become incensed by your mere presence will force the others to acknowledge that they may be filled with anger and not the holy spirit.

1. I'm on board with you.
The first thing I did was write a letter to the NY Times regarding the article on voters who saw in Bush honesty, integrity and understanding of the average citizen's way of life.

Pardon me. :puke:

We all know what a moral cesspool Bush really represents, and we must get the true Gospel -- repentance, social justice, making peace, etc. -- out to the people. Christianity is not about bragging what a kind soul you are; it's about knowing your sinfulness and responding to God's message.

We've got to get this message out in the "mainstream" media as much as possible -- CNN, the major newspapers, your local newspapers, discussion groups, etc. The media has given a platform to the likes of Jerry Falwell and Pat Robertson long enough. We need more than just "Now with Bill Moyers" doing programs on Jim Wallis, worthy though Wallis is. We need to piggyback onto that and get more and more visible.

Jews and Christians really can make a difference in terms of what message is getting out there. Gay-baiting and plutocracy and bragging DO NOT represent the action of people of faith.

2. I'm thinking if there are enough of us..
and I'm very sure there are , we could get alot of attention.

We must remain peaceful and entertaining.. and appropriate for children to see..
no horrific signs such as the anti-abortionists use.

The corporate media will need something they can sell before they give our opinions any air time.

4. Already started...but sometimes it's discouraging
Twice this year before the election in my prayer group I've stood up for gays & lesbians, and for the poor, only to get a "well you're more spiritual than I am in that regard" kind of response.

Two weeks ago one of the ladies said "we need to pray that people stop being delusional about voting for Kerry," to which I replied, "well, I guess consider me delusional, then." She seemed rather apologetic after that and I told her that this country is more divided than it's ever been and we SHOULD BE praying for unity and for God's will, not for a specific mandate.

She agreed.

But I haven't been back to that prayer group since then....fortunately a neighbor across the street who also attends the same church is progressive and also voted for Kerry. So I commiserate with him quite a bit...

7. I'm saying why not boycott your church?

If a group of peaceful, joyful Christians was outside your church trying to share the progressive perspective of Christianity with your church would you ignore them or join them?

5. Question for you....
what do you consider black evangelical holy rollers...like pentecostals? They're certainly NOT progressive.

Seriously, I've been wondering why we find it easy to go into black churches repeat some Amens etc....yet can't find the language to go into these white pentecostal churches.

As an atheist I'm no expert, however I have been in both white and black evangelical churches...and there's really no difference.

8. Black, white who cares?
The goal is to stagnate the growth of fundamentalism before it destroys both our church and state.

6. Right on!!
glad to see others on this as well! Progresives and liberals let them Hijack the word liberaW an dnow we have seen that they hijacked christianity we must not stop the fight to regain the good name of liberalism and the core of what christianity stands for.

BTW I am not a christian but I wish that more people who called themselves christian followed the wise message of Jesus.
